Mickey Rourke

This could go under "ugly styles, things we read, overrated fights"and a ton of other things.
I liked Mickey Rourke.Back in the 80s-90s as an actor.

Back when magazines were the source of information ,how cool was it that Mickey Rourke turned pro?Pretty dang cool I thought.

I can't remember specifics but he had a good record too I thought.
The guy from Miami Vice,Tony Danza,Gary Stretch were among those who were actor/fighters of varying degrees of success.I read Vinnie Curto praised Robert Deniro for his skills as he trained for the Raging Bull movie.

Flash forward to the internet.
Rourkes step father outed him as a lying poser.Ok,maybe, maybe not.Family can be deadly sometimes.
But then Rourkes fights started surfacing on youtube.

Man.Remember I said I thought all fighters, regardless of their success deserve credit for stepping in the ring?Well that's just it,fighters. Not actors who act as if theyre fighters.

Rourke blows.Wearing a doo rag during a fight showing absolutely no skills but trying to showboat .Fake knock outs.
Then he continued to spiral with plastic surgery, imagined deep"die for my brother" relationships with Tupac and Mike Tyson calling out fighters.Buddying up with the Great One,James Toney
All the while hyping his own incredible career. And today as he walks around looking like Paris Hilton or the 3rd Olsen Twin, after being gang jumped while stroking his wee little dogs and carrying man-purses.

If you are bored and on lockdown watch his fights on youtube.

But not if you have a heart condition.
NOT because it's nonstop warfare that will have your adrenaline on overload ,but because you're likely to scream at the tv til you have a stroke at the rediculousness of watching him fighting like an old lady.

I watched that last farce he was in on a Russian card live as it happened a few years back. I wanna say it was on the Provodnikov vs Castillo card.

It was a blatant fix. Apparently it was considered an exhibition as I don't think it's on his record as a Pro fight, but it couldn't have been a blatant dive.

He was fighting a guy that 1-9 or something, and the guy basically never threw a punch. When he would throw jabs, he would just extend his arm lightly with no force whatsoever, just to make it KINDA look like a fight.

I don't know if his earlier fights were like that, but I wouldn't doubt it.

I know he fought 2 draws too.

If it's a joke and an embarrassment in a Boxing ring you're looking for. Look up Jorge Kahwagi (Kihwagi) I forget the exact spelling of his last name, but it's one of the most absurd, and embarrassing things I've ever seen in a Boxing ring.

You ain't lying.I just looked him up.He makes Rourke look like Floyd Mayweather haha. I've seen a thumbnail of him but didn't know it was real.
He strikes me a a guy with money that got horrible implants and stages a career.
I can think of plenty better things to blow money on.

Staging the fights even would've looked better if not for the absolutely ridiculous muscle implants.

It's so bad that even the commentators just laugh, and say "Jorge Kahwagi is a fraud"

Danza and obviously Stretch (a national champ amateur and Eubank world title challenger) were in boxing before acting--note also that Danza kept boxing after losing multiple times and being KO'd, a sign of a guy who was actually trying to have a boxing career and not just fixing fights for PR. He even fought John Locicerco of Ring round of the year fame, got KO'd, and kept at it.

Rourke is just some fraudy actor who liked the idea of being a boxer and had the profile/money to get opponents to lay down for him and feed his delusions

His pro-career was embarrassing.

In the debut he was clowning, pushing, clinching and doing everything, except of boxing:

That's a famous dive, where the guy awkwardly rolled after a slap, other than a punch:

Here the opponent was too bad of an actor, first he failed to take a dive, then knocked Mickey down, after what Rourke was given some extra time, and eventually the guy was KOed by a missed shot:

It's a well known fact that virtually all or all of his matches were fake, and how he managed to get ranked in the top ten by the WBO in spite of this still boggles my mind after all these years.

There was a guy who used to post on this forum who was a journeyman boxer (Expug I think is who it was) who claimed that he was offered to fight Rourke, and he accepted but later on they asked him to either lay down or take it easy on Rourke and he refused so they went with somebody else.

So what's the deal with the draws on Rourke's record? Was it a case where he should've lost and they gave it to the other guy? In which case I'm fairly surprised he wasn't KO'd.

11-3-2 Sean Gibbons and 0-2-0 Fransisco Harris.

Maybe the matches are out there somewhere.

Note- Sean Gibbons apparently was the nephew of Pat O'Grady, father of Sean O'Grady and has quite the checkered past so it seems.

https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2004/jan ... ered-past/

Allegedly he (Gibbons) fought a lot of people who took dives or who were just horrible. He apparently had a stable of guys who would have winning records all built on dives and then they would legitimately lose to somebody who was good to enhance that person's record.

So, it seems with him a possibility but from what I have seen the accounts basically say that Gibbons won the Rourke fight but only one judge gave it to him while the other two judges called it a draw.

As for Francisco Harris, it may very well be that someone agreed to fight Rourke and lay down but didn't follow the script. But somebody had the judges in the bag just in case.
