Journalist story in this weeks BN

So in this weeks Boxing News Matt Christie does a great piece on a typical Vegas fight week.
But he drops this.

After setting up an interview with a well-known British fighter, a well know journalist strolled over to the table where the fighter and I were sat, placed their dictaphone between us, pressed record then walked off without saying a word. Unamused, I turned his dictaphone off.

Any ideas who this would be?
Gareth Davies would surely be an odds-on favourite.

I remember Gareth Davies coming on here in a very weak attempt to defend himself for the atrocious piece he wrote about Peter Buckley.

He ended up making things worse and came across very badly.

I don’t know much about him other than when he goes on Talksport I immediately turn the station over

Jeff Powell?

Then again it's not Jeff's style, he'd moan about it in his Daily Mail column with loads of pictures of him with boxers to show us how loved he is in the fight game.

Yes, in fact that is a very accurate description of him.

I've never read any of his writing but he does gatecrash a lot of YouTube interviews and pisses a lot of people off.

What a mug. What did he say on the bored? Is it still up?
He tried to blame the editor saying he didn't come up with the headline, but the headline was apt considering what he wrote.
He said he would have a chat with Buckley if he saw him but said he wouldn't apologise.
A lot of our conservation took place on PM that was the way he had responded to my public post.
I'm sure he still looks at the board, trying to steal stories for free! But I don't think he has posted since after coming under heavy criticism for that piece.
If anyone was worth being banned......

I remember that story, didn’t realise it was him who wrote it though, remember having to explain to some non boxing people that he’d kick their arses all day long and twice on Sunday and having to explain how tough and good you have to be to be a 300 fight journey man.

I can’t let a thread about Gareth the arsehole Davies go without pointing out what a fine swordsman he is...allegedly.

I don't understand why Gareth gets such a hard time, he's one of the few mainstream journalists that actually gives a fornicate about, and actively champions British boxing (and combat sports in general). He's knowledgeable and usually gets decent interviews out of the fighters.

Fight fans are such kunts, they moan and moan about lack of coverage and then tear down its few genuine supporters, usually referencing the person's looks like teenage girls in a playground, rather than the actual content produced. Whinging on about him being 'posh' like that matters.

Granted the Buckley story was a shocker tho.

Edit : do we also actually know it was davis? Or has he been torn to shreds for shit-paper on a guess?

I find Bunce's articles a bit repetitive of trying to always go on about the dark side of boxing
I do get amused when he name drops in anything he types out. He'll always try and make out he's mates with any name in boxing.

Fun fact about Adam Smith, back in the 80's he was a 3-time Kumite champion and was known amongst his mates as "Smigger Laaa"

its true, the only reason he never went further in boxing is that his extensive bareknuckle career meant the stylistic differences were too difficult to adjust to, he could never get used to the gloves when he'd done so much stuff on the cobbles. he developed his own punching style specifically to cause cuts, if you look at his knuckles they're flattened down from the extensive hardening & conditioning he did with them.

a tough, tough man, those in the know accord him his proper respect

I was in the same hotel as him in Cardiff for the Takam-AJ fight.

I couldn’t sleep so went for a walk. I was startled by two badly beaten horses running down the street.
When I got to my hotel I found Adam Smith in the lobby with his shirt off (Russian mafia tattoos everywhere)with each hand either side of him in a bucket of horse urine.

He said he has to keep his knuckles hard as You never know what will happen when you live and breathe the cobble life.
He prefers to rustle his horses from the wild as they graze on grass that’s been trodden on by Wild Boar.

He gave the horses a bit of a kicking just for the Adrenalin buzz, but he let them live.

When I saw him ringside later that night he just gave me a wink.
The man gets my respect. Old school no-nonsense.
