I heard Froch say that he got 160k for his first couple of years as a pro and only got 200k for the Bute fight, but got several million for Kessler and would have got possibly more for Groves + the super 6 was probably very lucrative.

I wondered how his career ring earnings compares to Calzaghe's?

Just a guess but I reckon Froch’s earnings dwarf Calzaghe’s. Reports suggest Carl earned between 8 and 10 mill for the groves rematch which in itself probably covers a fair percentage of Joe’s entire career earnings

Joe would’ve been well remunerated for fighting jones and Hopkins in America and the Kessler unification fight in front of a huge crowd presumably was a good payday for him but other than that he seemed to fly under the radar of the wider sporting public and thus I imagine his earnings were rather modest in comparison with Froch

Worst and most ridiculous self management in history when he accepted 50/50 for the Jones fight when HE was the champ and the man. An old shot Roy rubbed his hands together, laughing back to the bank.

Calzaghe preferred to fight the tocker pudwills. Froch for all his clear faults was much more hungry and sought out the big fights throughout his career. Toward the end when he was in Calzaghes position he gave the young upstart (Groves) a shot. Calzaghe decided not to do that. If he'd fought and beat Froch he would have saved himself a few headaches from Frochs future behavior and he would have enhanced his legacy. You have to respect the way Froch went about his business, despite how much of an absolute pillock he is. He's outearned Calzaghe by miles i'd say.

Hope both are doing well financially. They deserve it.

I think accepting 50-50 to fight jones sounds Fine. considering how much bigger name jones was/is. plus as you said roy was old and shot, so calzaghe should of and did win. He probly made more for a 50/50 split with jones than if he had an 80/20 with any other fight that winnable. im Sure he wasnt that keen to go in with a younger less known killer at that stage of his carrer and risk his undefeated record and retire on a loss.
also Retiring after just beating hopkins then jones is pretty dreamy.

Thought Joe got around £13m total for Hop and Jones, 5 for Hop and 8 for Jones?

I'd imagine his other fight earnings total up to some millions, given the number of title fights and regularly getting USA coverage too

Froch wasn't in the really big money long enough to massively outearn Joe was he? Where would that all come from if he was making only 200k vs even vs Bute? The Super 6 paydays were in the hundreds of thousands for the most part I thought, not loads of millions (reported purse was like 450k in the final vs Ward), and he wasn't really 'out there' until Bute

Either way they both would've earned a lot, around or over 20m i'd think

Think i can also remember allegedly stole his 2-3 million purse from the bernard hopkins fight so i would say it's almost certainly froch with the most dough.

Yeh, just 2 of them I think.

He couldn't sell out Cardiff Ice Rink pre-Lacy, unless on same card as the big names (Hamed, Hatton, Eubank, Tyson).

joe never got paid for Hopkins though? a certain promoter's company went into liquidation i thought?

Not surprised Froch got a relatively small purse for the Bute fight as he was the challenger and people have openly said they overpaid Bute to get him over here. A little bit like if we see AJ’s purses I’d bet he got less for the Charles Martin fight than he did for his fight with Dillian Whyte.

I think George Groves let slip in an interview somewhere that the purses were approx 8mill and 2mill for the Wembley fight. That’s in pounds. I’d be surprised if the Jones Jr fight eclipsed that and surely the Jones Jr fight would be Calzaghe biggest purse?

When his wife divorced him she was weighing up taking a bigger chunk of what he already had and nothing from his future earnings or less of what he had and a cut of future earnings.

The divorce was finally sealed In 2004 after the Mitchell fight, she felt he was at the end of the road and didn't lay claim to future earnings, walking away with a couple of million.

Nevertheless one of the things that gave JC so much pleasure was that she couldn't get her hands on the plunder when he broke into the big money, Lacy, Kessler, Jones and Hopkins

I would hope Froch earned more. He was in a lot more high profile fights than Calzaghe was.

Sure not same site, £14 million ($21 million). I don’t know how they come up with these figures,‘probably miles off
