Andrade: I Looked Forward To Fighting Golovkin At One Point; Not Anymore

"Andrade: I Looked Forward To Fighting Golovkin At One Point; Not Anymore"

Canelo Alvarez.

Billy Joe Saunders.

Jermall Charlo.

Those were the three names Demetrius Andrade mentioned when he was asked to give his “hit list” during the most recent episode of Matchroom Boxing’s podcast, “The Lockdown Tapes.” Gennadiy Golovkin’s name was ominously missing from that list.

Andrade apparently no longer considers Golovkin the type of opponent the WBO middleweight champion can get excited about boxing. Golovkin owns the IBF middleweight title, but he is 38 years old and hasn’t exactly expressed any legitimate interest in facing Andrade.

The undefeated southpaw has called out Golovkin countless times over the past few years, but Andrade explained to host Chris Lloyd why his opinion on facing Golovkin has changed.

“I would say Triple-G, but you know, Triple-G, he did his thing, he had his time,” Andrade said. “Yeah, he’s a great name. Did I fight him at his prime? No. Can I beat him at his prime? Yeah. Will the people ever see it? No. Did Canelo fight him at his prime? [No.] Is Canelo gonna fight him again, maybe for the third time? But it’s just like, you know, I’m just saying Triple-G did his thing. He showed and gave boxing all he has. And is that something I’m looking forward to doing? I was at one point. But now it’s not really worth excitement if it was maybe like a year or two earlier.

Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) and Mexico’s Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) could fight a third time once the COVID-19 pandemic comes to an end. Golovkin’s handlers have indicated, though, that Golovkin wants to make a mandatory defense of his IBF 160-pound crown against Poland’s Kamil Szeremeta (21-0, 5 KOs) before he faces Alvarez again.

To be fair, even though I’m no fan of Andrade, he does have a point, especially when you consider the following facts about GGG, because he:

• Chose to vacate his IBF world middleweight title rather than face Sergiy Derevyanchenko, the Kazakh instead preferred to fight Vanes Martirosyan (a man that never beaten a top fighter, had been inactive for two years, wasn’t a middleweight and had only won one fight in within the previous 3½ years).

• Walked away from bouts against Billy Joe Saunders on two separate occasions (once in 2017 and again the following year), despite the Brit having agreed terms (as confirmed by Tom Loeffler).

• Despite being the WBO’s highest-rated contender, GGG chose to face the unheralded Steve Rolls (a fighter that had never beaten anyone of note), rather than challenge for Demetrius Andrade’s world middleweight title, despite the American being a fellow DAZN stablemate.

• Declined interest in facing his own WBC mandatory challenger, Jermall Charlo, claiming there were bigger fights for him.

• Declined interest in engaging in rematches against Danny Jacobs and Sergiy Derevyanchenko, despite their encounters being moderately controversial in nature.

It’s clear that Gennadiy has reached a certain point in his career where he’s unwilling to risk missing out on the opportunity to receive another Canelo mega-payday… and I don’t really blame him, since I'd do the same if I was in his shoes.

Instead, it seems likely that he’ll take the safe route by facing the unheralded, unaccomplished and feather-fisted Kamil Szeremeta, immediately prior to engaging in a third bout against Canelo.

And when we consider the timelines, coupled with the current COVID-19 situation, Golovkin will be at least 39½ years of age when he eventually has availability in his schedule during the second half of next year to face someone like Andrade.

Put it this way, apart from the payday, would any of us give Andrade any kudos for beating a past-his-prime opponent on the cusp of turning forty years of age? Probably not!

Andrade isn’t on Golovkin’s radar and the pair are unlikely to ever share the ring with each other, so it makes sense for the American to refrain from seeking certain career opportunities that will never materialise.

Andrade needs to look in the mirror. He is 32, has no fans, has never been in a big fight and coasts against inferior opposition.

:TU:

A guy that thinks talking about deserving an opportunity is enough.

And if GGG did fight him then EO's spreadsheet on undersized GGG opponents who used to fight below MW would be quickly updated

Andrade is one guy I don't have sympathy for, already turned down a Charlo fight and puts on stinker after stinker with no drive to entertain or really make a bang. If you're gonna fight cans at least blast through beastly like GGG did. Instead Andrade does all this weird jittery pitter patt coasting stuff.

Really he should still want to fight GGG, it would be a hell of a lot bigger fight for him than anything he's done

I was a bottle of vodka deep, plus beers and you still bore the hell out of me, you repeat the same turd over and over again, it's very boring for the general reader of the forum, and shows what your life must be like. It says a lot when you have the first reply to your own post.

Andrade can compile a big list of top fighters he did NOT fight at 154 and 160.

LMAO.

I wonder...who is his audience? At some stage you need to take stock of your audience.

I perceive him as an irrational person, period. He's unreliable and I'm unable to take him seriously. It becomes more apparent when the topics are about well liked fighters, such as GGG and Crawford, for example.

That's surely the general consensus? That he is irrational?
Or maybe I'm being too hard on old EO....

First of all, you’ll need to prove that you truly understand the dictionary definition of the words “irrational” and “unreliable”, by providing examples of one or more of my posts that perfectly illustrates your claims.

Second, others create threads, where the first post is a copy/paste/hyperlink from a website article, immediately followed by a second post that contains their own personal thoughts on the matter.

Myself and others, such as Ruthless-RKO, have been doing this for years, why has this suddenly become so objectionable? This is more of a question to others who complained about me doing this on this thread.

you're not at all comparable, because Ruthless isn't a complete pudendum constantly looking for validation of his opinion by posting a subject, then saying 'thoughts?' (as though you're actually in the slightest bit interested in what other people say or somehow open to other opinions than your own) and then vehemently and endlessly disagreeing with anyone who doesn't just say 'yeah, EO, you're amazing and I totally agree'

IE, one of the several reasons people find you objectionable is the pose you assume of looking for debate and discussion, when what you really wish for is both (a) a pulpit to lecture people from and (b) a willing, acquiescent (and preferably entirely supine) audience whom will simply nod like sheep and agree with every single thing you say

it's that fundamental disingenuousness- that artful pose, aping a desire for discussion but constantly belying your own pose, with almost every post you make- that is, as I say, among the several things that people find objectionable about you.

i could go on, if you'd like a longer list of your objectionable traits, seeing as you asked?

There is no contest, rko posts about general boxing news, and when needed gives insight and a valid non biased opionion. You however are an autistic sad act who regurgitates the same tripe over and over again. Displaying facts that suit your agenda but failing to accept facts that topple your argument.

Get out of your basement and interact with the real world, except your opinions are wrong from time to time, instead of using that spreadshite everytime someone argues with you.
