A piece in the Sun today about Tyson trying to get into commentating.
I think he’d be great at this, Its been said before that he’s a walking encyclopaedia on boxing and I’m sure he could give an in-depth look into everything that could possibly happen between the ropes.

I would much rather see him outside the ropes than inside them this stage of his career.

Well if people can get over his girly sounding voice, it'd be a good idea.

I agree. People will make fun of his lisp and inventive vocabulary but if you've ever heard him talk boxing he is incredibly insightful.

I think he'd be great. Lennox is terrible so why not.

in seriousness I think Mike would make a good commentator once he got used to it. He obviously doesn't have the apptetite for fighting any more, so it's a good move.

Trouble is, he'll never be free of his debts, commentating pays ok, but not well enough to pay off $40m.

He may never get rich enough again to wipe out a $40 million debt but I’m sure he can earn enough to get around this, if you know what I mean.

It is sad that history continually repeats itself when it comes to the greats fighting to long because of money problems.
The greatest champs throughout have had to do it.

No way will Tyson be hired as a commentator, it would be a huge risk - what happens if he loses it. Remember when being interviewed he talked about fornicating women interviewees.

One thing like that and the whole production team could be in trouble.

Tyson could always become a coach.

He does have experiance of being trained by Cus d'manto.

what will happen when he doesn't pay off his debt? prison again? Or will they conveniently overlook that option if he's successful in the commentary box?

He used to do some commentating for Showtime during the late 90's. Did a Bernard Hopkins (think it might have been Robert Allen rematch) fight. I'm a bit shaky on this one but I think he might have been there for Terry Norris against Jorge Luis Vado - don't quote me on that.

I'm not sure how he'd do as a commentator now, seems really docile these days. I saw him doing some work for ESPN over in the US and he came across really well, gave the types of insights that only a fellow boxer can.

do you go to prison for debt in the USA, surely not. It's only tax evasion i thought that sent you to jail.

According to the article Jay Larkin at Showtime is keen on the idea.

I really hope it happens, Tyson is finished as a fighter, he just doesn't want it any more, this has been the case since before the Lewis fight.

No, no jail for debt. It's a blood from a stone situation. If he never makes another dime, his creditors don't get their money. As it is, they agreed to a percentage of what they were owed based on his proposed fight schedule, which was approved by a judge. He could be fined (funny) or possibly jailed for scamming the court but a judge can't make him fight or make anyone pay him millions. If the fight plan is dead, his creditors will take him to court to get any amount out of him they can, should he go on with his life in another fashion, and they'll continue to go after him as his situation changes. He's entitled to keep what the court deems fair and/or necessary to live on.

I think he should do a buddy McGirt and train guys. McGirt is making serious money now and Tyson has serious know-how. I'd be motivated if he was my trainer. How about Dom Guinn? And he could still take Showtime gigs or whatever.

He doesnt have the discipline at the moment to be a trainer. Maybe that will change but he's still all over the place by some accounts I have read. Not to say he wouldnt make a great trainer if he applied himself but he needs to commit himself 100% to doing so and he hasnt been able to apply himself 100% to his own career for a long time.

Great fighters don’t always carry their know how over into being great trainers.
James McGirt aside what good world champion has been a success at being a trainer?
Tyson could motivate any aspiring boxer, no doubt.
But it does take more than this.

Hate to sound negative but i think that after Boxing Tyson will either end up in prison or dead :(

Tyson really didn't want the lewis fight I think, it was all just money, money money. He lost his appetite for the sport, probably around the same time as he went to jail, it's just nobody was able to give him a hard fight, until he ran into Vander.

I think there was some desire for him to regain the title when he beat Bruno and Seldon - seemed to want to do it for Cus' legacy.

His passion was definately gone after the Golota fight (in which he announced his retirement). He became needlessly inactive and in 3 of his 4 fights since was overweight.
