Ryan Rhodes amateur career

I know Rhodes won multiple titles as a junior but I seem to recall he entered the Senior ABAs one year, is that right? I have a vague memory of seeing his name on ceefax losing in either the final of semi final.

Or am I getting this mixed up with another Rhodes?

I think he smashed Junior Witters nose in at The Irish Centre in Leeds in the Yorkshire’s. Darren Rhodes was top quality around that weight but always ran into John Pearce in the quarters.

I remember seeing Darren Rhodes at Gateshead Leisure centre in his Hunslet boys strip.

I am not familiar with John Pearce though. Which region did he represent?

I think I saw Darren Rhodes and Donovan Smillie from Bradford Police have a humdinger, think Dmillie got the decision, but I thought Rhodes won.

Rhodes got stopped by Eddie Stuart in the abas
Originally Ryan, but digressed to Darren lol

What round of the abas was that loss to Stuart?

They had a close fight in Sheffield in Ryan's last amateur fight.

So Ryan won? What weight was that at? I always thought Witter looked podgy/stocky in the amateurs but was surprised that he was light welter and seemed very lean as a pro.

His nose said different, and Bradford is a lot closer to Leeds than Sheffield!

They boxed in Sheffield in Ryan's last amateur fight and Ryan got the nod in a close fight. I wasn't aware that they fought another time.
The Ingles had a blonde-haired kid (Jason Barker) who beat Junior 4 times. Are you confusing him with Ryan?

Did Jason beat him 4 times? Jason was a proper good bloke who could really fight. I remember he went pro really young with Brendan and won nothing, then went with Glyn Rhodes and did really well, I shared a dressing room with him when he knocked out Neil Linford in front of his home fans with a really hostile crowd

Don't take it as a dig against Brendan, maybe he turned over too young, some fighters click better with different trainers
