R.I.P. Donald "Biff" Cline. It sounds like he was a very interesting guy.

It looks like Donald "Biff" Cline had pugilista dementia since 2004. I am sorry to learn that he was in such a bad state and that he reportedly passed away.

I remember Cline in connection with the ABC boxing tournament that resulted in the Ring Magazine Scandal during the late 1970s. Cline's record in the 1977 Ring Record Book was one of those which was apparently padded with bouts which never took place.

Looking at Cline's record, it is hard to believe that he was "a highly touted light heavyweight" during the 1970s. All of his wins were over fighters who had losing records or were making their pro debuts. It appears that Cline faced only two legitimate fighters during his career, Dwight Muhammad Qwai and Ray Elson, and was stopped both times. The bout with Elson took place during the ill-fated ABC boxing tournament.

In 1975 Ring Magazine listed Biff "The Terror" Cline as a prospect. I was 14 or 15 and new to boxing, so I thought anyone 5(5)-0 must be Great!

It's a name and nickname I'll never forget. When he fought Ray Elston on TV I told all my buddies who would listen, this guy is great. Caught some flak for that.

He was managed for a time by crooked small timer Paddy Dolan I believe.
