According to British trade paper Boxing News, former WBC world champion Robin Reid has received and offer from Team Palle to challenge WBA champ Mikkel Kessler on a not specified date in March. Reid is 37-4-1 (27), and currently holds the IBO title, which he won in June on points over Brian MaGee. He is reportedly also considering an offer to fight IBF champ Jeff Lacy that month, but no word on which fight he is leaning towards.

Anyone know more about it?

if it's true, all credit to kessler for his balls. lacy aswell? jesus, i only wish reid wasn't shot as he could have beaten both of those guys.

Typical of boxing today, and certainly the supermiddle division. Too many "champions" and not enough challengers.

If Reid hangs about another 5 years, he'd probably rack up another 10 title shots, even if he nevers actualy wins one.

We've reached the stage of champions, in search of a payday, calling out challengers, rather than the other way round.

He certainly isn’t what he was, but I would not call him shot.

A Lacy fight could be more appealing, Kessler is somewhat unknown and a win may not gain him much in the way of meaningful recognition where as lacy is good coming forward and suspect going back, perhaps this would suit Reid more, he does like a fighter coming to him and when he does let them go he is still quite dangerous.

I would make him the under-dog in both, but feel lacy could make it easier for him.
And a loss to him would not look as bad as a loss to Kessler.

i think he has the tools to beat lacy, jeff is nothing special, just a decent come forward volume puncher, rather than the huge puncher we all previously thought he was.

i'm sure reid hits harder, especially with that right hand. he might just get outworked, his main problem. although i'd like to see how lacy would deal with being hit by that right hand.

Look, Omar Sheika just gave Lacy Hell, Reid has to be in with a shot, but he tends to go to sleep for periods and would probably get outworked.

Kessler, not seen enough of him...

A fight with Kessler is the better option, then assuming Reid wins, Lacy will find a unification bout more appealing. Kessler is the easier of the two, IMO, but yes, Lacy's style will suit Rob better.

If he took the Kessler fight first , and lost, there would not be much chance of a Lacy fight.

But a loss to Lacy wouldn’t really harm his chances against getting a Kessler shot, as long as he doesn’t look too good.

There's more money to be made fighting Lacy, so that's what he should go for. Reid can be so awkward that a loss to anyone means that, without a title, no-one's going to be knocking on his door, plus his awkwardness means that he's got a slim chance of a decision fighting away from home. Kessler's a bit more active than Lacy, so I think the American is the better fight, but Palle have a lot of eggs in the Kessler basket so they could be bunging Reid a fat wedge.

Could Froch some how get into this also?
He says he wants to move up in class, and at his age he needs to pretty soon.

Froch doesn't need to rush, he is moving along quite nicely, a fight against Reid or Lacy could be a mistake at this stage, another 4-5 fights and he might be ready. He's going to have to learn to keep his bloody left hand up though, he's been tagged hard by Adamu and Woolnaugh, and there's bigger and more consistent bangers out there. If he pulled that shit against Lacy I think he would wake up with the celing lights glaring at him.

But he is fast approaching 30, whilst not old, it is getting there.

hes 27 and 28 in july 2nd so 30 is quite a bit away 4 u to b gettin all hyper about his age and reid shud fight froch cuz i think froch wud beat magee and i also think froch wud beat reid then defend against magee beat him then move onto great hights

Yes Froch is only 27, he's nearing his peak, and being a relatively late starter, he will probbaly peak late too, he's obviously in good physical nick and must have good training habits as he undertook his first 12 rounder with Adamu with no trouble at all, and paced himself well against Woolnaugh who is no pushover and was far more experienced.

Reid is not quite shot but he is not far off, it is a shame i don't think he quite made it big in his career although i suppose he only has himself to blame as the performances against Malinga and particuarly Branco were shoddy and i suppose he can always argue he beat Calzaghe which i think he did.

I doubt he has the workrate to beat Lacy though or Kessler...he tends to go to sleep as James mentioned and when he does do something well he sits back and admires his work or poses and checks his hair in the glove reflection, he still has a good right hand and a solid chin though. I don't think he has ever been dropped has he?

I am not saying Froch is old, when you look at the likes of Hopkins and even Howard Eastman he’s positively young.

These are the ages of when these fighters got their first big chance.
Monzon 28yrs old.
Minter 28yrs old.
Hagler 25yrs old.
These were the old days of 1title, and Hagler beat the best in the division before he was champion, or so it has been said.

If we look to a more modern a time we have.
Nigel Benn 26yrs old.
Steve Collins 25 yrs old.
Chris Eubank 24yrs old.
Michael Nunn 25yrs old.
Roy Jones Jr. 24yrs old.
James Toney 23yrs old.

So in a time of an abundance of titles on offer it does seem the age is coming down.
How close is he to a title shot?

WBA outside of the top 15.
IBF also outside of the top 15.
WBO and once again outside of the top 15.
WBU no mention there even..
WBC does mention him..at 22.

Even this site has him down at number 24.

So I think he needs to get a move on.
