With Eastman and Hatton seemingly to be set to fight for geniune world titles another geniune world title fight involving a British fighter has been overlooked.

On February the 10th - Wayne McCullough challenges Oscar Larios for the WBC Super Bantamweight title. Wayne is still a popular figure in the states and no doubt this has played a huge part in him getting this shot. For me this has come far too soon after another long layoff and I would have like to have seen him fight a couple of meaningful SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT contests, just to see how easily he can make the weight.

I do believe it was weight more than age that effected Wayne in his challenge to the massive frame of Scott Harrison - however, in Larios he faces the #1 fighter in the devision by some distance (with Guzman unlikely to see this weight again). Larios impressed me alot on the Barrera vs Morales 3 undercard and I think could give any of the featherweights a tough fight. He's all wrong for Wayne who must e very ring rusty and its a pitty because geniune ring rust could cost Wayne a more winnable world title opportunity at this weight (because I cannot see another shot occuring should he lose).

Hope he does well, but I can see another one sided points loss - Wayne may have some moments, but it won't be competitive.

I agree, i too see McCullough losing to Larios on points. I also agree that it was more the weight rather than age that effected Wayne in his loss to Harrison last year. I mean look how huge Harrison looks in this picture http://www.scottharrison.net/SH/imgs/ph ... 68960.jpg

Well, I'll be rooting for McCulloch, not that it will be shown over here of course....

I think this fight has come too soon for sure, not seen much of Larios, but he's considered the main man, and McCulloch will have rust to contend with, as well as age...

McCullough was born and bred in the Shankhill Road area of Belfast so is very much british..

If this Larios fight is the main event on Fox Sports Best Damn Sports Show then it's possible that you may be able to download it from the Fox Sports website as this was possible for the Toney - Booker fight that was shown on that programme.

My mum was born in Northern Ireland, but she considers herself very much Irish.

Despite all the sectarianism, you only have to listen to people from Northern Ireland talk, or hang out with them for any length of time to know they aren't British.

What do you consider British then James? Go to Wales and hang out with them guys speaking Welsh. Im British alright. Their are more Union Jack where I live than most parts of England i'd say.

Just an observation....the truth of the matter is I'm rooting for McCulloch as 'one of us' he's from the 'British Isles.'

Just pointing out that not everyone in Northern Ireland considers themselves British, in fact, far from it....

Same goes for many Scots and Welsh though as well. And wether they like it or not they are British and have British passports.

maybe so, but if you've ever been to the shankhill road in belfast then you'd know that very few people from that area would consider themselves irish. i'd consider myself northern irish rather than irish or british.

anyway, this ain't a political forum. lets hope wayne can win the fight regardless.

it isn't part of england at all. it's part of the UK.

It is 6 administrative counties, which form part of England (technically).

No I wouldn't say Scotland & Wales are part of England, because they aren't...

and neither is northern ireland.

Yeah I guess new zealand and Australia must be part of England then.


Northern Ireland is 'british' not 'English' it makes up part of the british isles as it is part of the united kingdom's territories.

England's borders are the piece of the Ireland called England. England's parliament has traditionally administered the other parts of the United Kingdom, but Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales are part of the united Kingdom.

England is a country, the United Kingdom is the term for the affiliation of four nations. I believe the united kingdom came to replace 'Great Britain.'

Is there any other country/group of nations with so many bloody names?

And anyways back to Larios-McCullough

Massive Boxing fan that i am this is the first i have heard of this fight...i am of the thinking that Wayne should be sitting back on the Vegas strip and counting his pennies rather than still "pugilising" :) Am i the only one going for the stoppage here? Harrison was mighty close and even though McCullough has a great chin i think it is only a matter of time and a fresh fighter and decent puncher like Larios will be the first man to do it.

Deffinitely not a fight I'd take if I were managing Wayne. He's liable to take another 12 round beating, the last thing he needs after a career like his. Don't see how he beats a young tough fighter like Larios.

Does he really need the money? After the Harrison horror show, he should be enjoying the good life. His corner and "manager" showed no inclination to spare him a severe beating that night.
So if things get tough, he's unlikely to get any help there. Too brave for his own good.

That's exactly what i am thinking...he will become another human punch bag as promoters use him as an upper class yardstick for there men, Larios is a good fighter on the up and will want to put in a good show after his rather subdued win over Nedal Hussein. It's not going to be pretty.
