BOXING REFLECTION:
Image
Everyone on here should offer James Schuler a final salute for his career. He has only one loss and tragically died a week after his lone loss to Hearns. I remember reading the article covered in a regional newspaper before the era of the internet and the sports section was gracious enough to give boxing fans a break on finding out about the tragedy early rather than reading about it in a magazine at the supermarket several months later.

*James was true professional, always in shape and always gave his best. As fans we appreciated his efforts and skills. In reflection we offer him a final salute.

*Footnote. James was first fighter to defeat James Kinchen.

James would have been a real force in the middleweight division, possibly beating Hagler and, if he didn't fight him so soon, Hearns. Real good fighter.

A great tragedy what happened to Shuler, solid prospect. But it's hard to imagine him beating Hagler, or Hearns later when he was outclassed and laid out in the first round by The Hitman.

Zero chance he'd have ever fought hagler. This was on the mugabi card.
