Chris Jenkins vs. Conor Benn - 25 July 2020 (OFF)

Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn continued his consistent media presence today, sitting down for a one-hour interview with iFL TV. In addition to the standard heavyweight discussion, Hearn gave an update on his planned “Fight Camp” series, which he hopes to kick off on July 25th with Chris Jenkins defending his British welterweight title against Conor Benn in the main event.

While that fight and others, including Sam Eggington vs. Ted Cheeseman in what I’ve dubbed the Breakfast Taco Brawl, remain works-in-progress, Hearn intends to transplant several previously set fights into the series. Among their number: Simon Vallily vs. Fabio Wardley, Gavin Gwynne vs. James Tennyson, and Chris Billam-Smith vs. Nathan Thorley.

According to Hearn, all fights will be domestic besides Dillian Whyte-Alexander Povetkin and Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano.

Jenkins (22-3-3, 8 KO) lifted the British belt from the recently retired Johnny Garton in March of last year, added the Commonwealth belt with a controversial technical decision over Paddy Gallagher, and drew with Liam Taylor in his first simultaneous defense.

The 23-year-old Benn (16-0, 11 KO), Jenkins’ mandatory challenger, doesn’t appear to have his father’s high ceiling but is a joy to watch. Throwing down with Jenkins would definitely make for a fun main event.

The fight everyone is after, a big payday against someone prob short of British level.

Nevertheless Benn is one of my favourite fighters to watch, big stones, huge fighting spirit, never in a dull fight.

And Jenkins cuts.

Looking forward to this.

I had a little £20 wager on Benn not winning a British title a couple years ago so now he has his chance

Jenkins and Lockett are bang up for this but Warren wont allow it, shame as it's a good match up, if Jenkins could somehow avoid getting cut then he could pose some serious questions

Dont know much about jenkins but looking at his record either his opponents gloves were made from broken glass or He loves to swing his head forwards and clash heads. 4 of his last 6 fights have been stopped on cuts.

I wouldn't want to fall behind on the cards and look to make up ground later on this one if i was benn.

Is this a goer or is Eddie just looking for some attention again? Where is it being staged?

But I guess he didn't have a title,
Eddie has picked Jenkins as a winnable fight, I'm sure Lockett knows this and has priced accordingly

Conor will win, his first serious title on his way to a world title. EBU next if they take him that route. People are starting to realise

Jenkins accepted the fight but Warren would not let him fight. S**t house move really from big frank as Jenkins could hardly be considered a priority to Warren and its not like he can even offer him a fight. Just stopping him making a living.

Thats fuked up if its true. You want your fighters on your shows then pay them more than people will pay them for there shows. In what fornicating universe is allegedly going to get him a better fight than benn, biggish name, and raw enough to be borderline beatable.... unless frank happens to anounce he is fighting kahn in a couple of months.... witch is about a 1000000/1 shot then this has been a fukheadmove.

Suppose it depends on the offer , If it was a similar offer than Mickey said was made to his mate Dean Croft ,, It could well off been Warren just not allowing his boxer to be taken the piss out off .

Outside of Warren, everyone else in the Jenkins camp want the fight, so it's obvious logic that the offer can't be that bad can it.

Wasn't Jenkins like 4 seconds away from losing his British title, so probably desperate for a money fight before he loses for little money. Have Frank and Eddie ever done business for a fight that didn't involve a fighter being in a mandatory position?
