Prime v Prime and all that proviso jazz.

Career light heavyweight, bona fide WBC world champion and absolute block of granite and all-round warrior Dennis Andries gets to fight Joe Calzaghe moving-up from SMW and sniffing out another title.

Does the super-busy, patently more skilful JC get to box at his leisure and win easily on points or does The Hackney Rock use his brute strength, ability to drag blokes into a fight and clubbing shots to turn it into the fight Joe regrets?

I think Andries could make it a messy night for Joe....who'd get roughed-up a few times, but ultimately Dennis is too hittable and Calzaghe is just too quick with his feet and hands.

Andries was raw and limited...but I still reckon he gives Joe a hard, hugely physical introduction to the LH world.

Calzaghe by UD (7-5 or 8-4)

Thank you Woldemar….at least someone is out there :salut:
I thought it was an interesting across-the-generations match.

I would back the hard-case Andries to make it one of Joe's more fretful and physically testing nights....and especially up at Light Heavyweight where Dennis was a real strong man.

I think Joe wins - tactically too smart, quicker hands, good movement and he was physically robust himself - but I still think Dennis gets Joe into the trenches for some hard, taxing rounds.

Same. Andries could always drop a bomb on Joe but I think Joe would outbox and outwork him for a UD 116-112

Thank you guys :salut:

I watched a lot of Andries and also Joe and I think the fight has plenty of spark especially as Andries was a powerful LH bruiser...despite the fact that ultimately the scorecards all look nice and convincing for Calzaghe.

Andries - even in with elite opponents - could make things messy and uncomfortable.
He was down loads against Hitman Hearns but clumped Hearns a few times too and earned the respect of the Kronk guys who he duly worked with.
