Wellborn has been poor lately. Hardly deserving of any sort of title fight.

Kieron Conway and Nav Mansouri will meet in a junior middleweight bout during week three of Matchroom Fight Camp on Friday August 14th– with the British bout broadcast live on Sky Sports and DAZN.

[Separately, DAZN listed a middleweight clash between undefeated Felix Cash and Jason Welborn for the same broadcast]. Conway (14-1-1, 3 KOs) heads into the fight after a successful 2019, which saw him burst onto the scene after his hard-fought draw with Ted Cheeseman for the British title in June.

Since then, he has picked up a pair of points wins over Konrad Stempkowski and Craig O’Brien, before now turning his attention to the clash with Mansouri.

Rotherham star Mansouri (20-3-2, 6 KOs) is back fighting in the UK for the first time since 2017.

He won the English title back in 2013 before defending it on several occasions, and now looks to add more gold to his collection when he takes on Conway.

Jason Welborn says he was close to walking away from boxing after his controversial loss to James Metcalf last year, but the former World Title challenger has a new found hunger ahead of his Commonwealth Middleweight Title clash with Felix Cash on Week 3 of Matchroom Fight Camp on Friday August 14.

Welborn (24-8, 7 KOs) was stopped with a left hook to the body in round eight when he took on Metcalf for the vacant Commonwealth 154lbs belt in Leeds. The Liverpudlian was warned by referee Steve Gray for straying low with his punches in the sixth, then, in the eighth, Welborn was given added time to recover from a low shot.

Metcalf had a point deducted for the low shot before finishing proceedings moments later. Tividale’s Welborn was left seriously considering his future in the sport that has seen him win the British, WBC International and Midlands Area Titles – but his desire to land the Commonwealth strap pushed him on to fight another day.

“I dropped back down to Light-Middleweight in my last fight against Metcalf,” said Welborn. “I was disgusted with everything that happened in that fight. I was going to walk away from the sport. I thought ‘you know what, I don’t need boxing’. At the end of day, I’ve worked hard to get here, and these up-and-coming fighters are getting looked after with the refs, but I don’t want to go out like that.

“It was my wife who made me get back into it. She said ‘that’s my belt, go and get it’. She knows what I’ve done to get here. My work is really successful at the minute and I could put all of my time into that if I wanted to, but who knows what more I could achieve in boxing. I’ve got more to give the sport and there’s something out there waiting for me. I’m not going out until I know what it is.”

In a recent interview, Wokingham’s Cash said Welborn ‘comes up short’ whenever he gets in the ring with ‘top operators’, and the Tony Sims-trained fighter believes this will be the case again when they clash live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US next month.

Armed with a full training camp after plenty of notice, Welborn is confident his preparation will help him pull off an eye-catching win over the highly-rated Matchroom fighter, who he feels has had it easy with backing from a major promoter.

“He’s been with Matchroom as soon as he turned pro. He’s had the luxury of long camps and plenty of notice. When I’ve been working I’ve had a calls off Errol Johnson at two weeks’ notice sometimes. When Nav Mansouri pulled out against Liam Smith I stepped in at two weeks’ notice and did what I could at the time.

“Life changes and I’ve got lucky with sponsorships and I’ve moved forwards. I’ve won a British Title, if I walked away from the sport now I’ve got nothing left to prove. Not many people have done what I’ve done for the Black Country. He’s had it fed with a silver spoon. If I’d have had his backing I’d have probably been a World Champion. I’ve always had the heart and the hunger for boxing. I’ve just never had the backing or the support where I can train full time.

“I’ve had good notice for this fight and I’m feeling good up at Middleweight not having to worry about the weight so much. It’s business and at the end of the day I’m coming to do a job, the same as him. I think it’s going to be a scrap. By the time fight night comes around I’ll be ready for a good hard 12 rounds. I’m topping the bill and I’m going to make a good statement in this fight.”

Kieron Conway will put friendship aside when he takes on former sparring partner and MTK Global stablemate Navid Mansouri for the vacant WBA Intercontinental Super-Welterweight Title on Week 3 of Matchroom Fight Camp in Brentwood, Essex on Friday August 14, shown live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

‘Too Class’ (14-1-1, 3 KOs) is in a fiery mood as he looks to land his first professional belt after having to settle for a draw against former British 154lbs Champion Ted Cheeseman in a close battle at the famous York Hall in June of last year.

Two wins against Konrad Stempkowski and Craig O’Brien followed for the Northampton talent who will now look to make his mark in a red-hot Super-Welterweight division that contains the likes of Matchroom stablemates Kell Brook, Scott Fitzgerald, Cheeseman and Anthony Fowler.

“My job is to win and that’s all I’m focused on,” said Conway. “I feel extremely confident. I’m a completely different fighter. I’m coming here to be ruthless. I’m hitting harder, I’m hitting faster and I’m fitter. I just don’t see anything other than me winning this fight.

“I’m here with hard intentions. I’m not here to mess around or make friends. I’m here to win whatever it takes. I’ve watched every fight that I can find of Nav 100 times. I must watch them every day. I never used to watch my opponent’s fights and I think that was a downfall for me. I just went in there with my plan and that was it.

“I’ve studied all of his fights. Yeah, he might come in a different guy. You never know what he’s doing but I’ve watched all them fight and I’ve seen mistakes, patterns and everything. I’m really confident with this one. My training camp has gone really well. I believe in my process 100%.

“Nav is a nice guy. I remember I went over to Marbella January time a few years ago just before my first pro fight. We did a few rounds. I can’t remember if we sparred once or twice but we got six or eight rounds in. From what I remember he wasn’t in good shape so I can’t take much from it.

“Like I say, he’s a nice guy but I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to win and I’m here to completely dominate. I’m young and I’m early on in my career. Nav is older than me and has had a lot more fights than me but it’s come to the point where age isn’t going to be a factor for me anymore. If you’re good enough, you’re good enough.”

Welborn has been a great servant to British boxing over the years, always took a challenge and pulled off the occasional upset as well as being on the wrong end of a bad decision or 2, loved how he took the fight to Hurd and never froze on the big stage, he's had a long career though, been stopped a lot albeit all pretty much by body shots l, he's been out over a year now, hasn't fought since Metcalf stopped him for the Commonwealth

I wasnt sold on Cash, thought he was a bit boring but is coming on at a good pace now he's at title level, the Cullen fight was excellent and he was bang on it that night, Welborn will be there as long as the fights on but I'm not sure what he has left, he has come back from stoppage defeats several times but at this stage the timings right for a Cash stoppage, should be comfortable

Parsons Cross was heavily involved with Nav.

Anyone giving Donovan a shot? Im really impressed with Zelfa, I wonder what his ceiling is, I feel he will bit a hit and miss. Sometimes looking like a world beater sometimes looking ordinary, wonder if its mental lapses or what.

I don't think Zelfa has the power to be a genuine operator at world level. Donovan still doesn't come in with much of a chance. I think he will get stopped to the body. At this level, Zelfa should be taking care of opponents like this. Donovan is 35 and has had issues with drugs and alcohol. Zelfa is a fresh young fighter who looks like he can compete at Euro level at least. He also had a great learning fight against Ronnie Clark.

I haven’t spoken to him for years. He’s a football agent and legal guy and runs “an evening with “, brought Floyd over.
I was on the drink with Kell Brook and he told me some stories about old Parsons.

Donovan is a hard opponent for Barrett, his amateur credentials are enough to make him a tough. Hope Eric can pull it off but it sounds like Barrett is a serious operator.

On another fight Rachel Ball is going beat Shannon Courtenay.

Dunno how good Barrett is, given space he is very fast with some lovely skills, but as Clark showed he can be bullied too, Clark won quite easily and while he is a decent domestic operator he is no world beater.

Depends what shape the Irishman is in too, is he ready to fight every minute of every round?

Also well over 2 years since he lost to Clark, he still hasn't fought at that level again and now he is getting matched against a 35 yr old who has had addiction and mental health problems! They are hardly letting the Brown Flash off the leash!

Leon Woodstock a decent out no? He did have an injury that sidelined him for a fair while.

How are yous rating Conway? Ive been impressed with him and followed him since chessman fight. He talks a good game, not to familiar with Navid bar the sheedy fight.

He's got some well-schooled 'just how you're supposed to do it' skills, the type of guy who I watched the first time and thought he must have a nice am background. Though maybe lacking some physical strength and power vs better opposition. I thought he won that decision that went against him ultimateboXXXer
