But, what are things from boxing writers that you find funny?

Myself? When you read someone had a good or hard right or left, or hard punching power and then you look at the boxer's record and see he or she only won 22 out of 80 by knockout or something like that.

Like saying Willie Pep had an excellent right hand for example..(he won something like 60 bouts by knockout but had what, 229 fights?)

Saying a fighter had a good left more often refers to how effective their jab was. Nothing to do with KO%.

Plenty of hard punchers have records resembling your example. Canzoneri, Ike Williams and harada are a few. Pep was on a knock out run leading to the crash.

Ko% is the most useless stat in boxing.

I swear some writers purposely pick the underdog just so they can say they saw the upset coming. I don't know if that's really the case, since I can't read their minds, but sometimes it seems so. Did the one writer who picked Holyfield over Tyson in 1996 really believe it? Pretty much everyone else feared for Holyfield's safety going in.

Also, jumping on a bandwagon and praising a prospect to the hilt before the prospect has had a chance to prove himself. For example, World Boxing put Howard Davis on the cover in late 1977 with the heading, "Howard Davis Jr. - Shades of Sugar Ray." He'd had five fights. I guess they want to say that they knew about him first.

Borges was legit. I wasn't as confident as I would have been in 89-91, but I still had evander in 96. Mike never would have beat him.

Even now, since Evander has started serous training again, I see Mikes training videos have stopped

The only first Rd kos I can remember picking in significant fights are Tyson/spinks, Jones/Griffin 2 and Williams/quintana 2

Fightnews will call someone with 3 KOs in 20 fights "always exciting." How exciting can he be?

Shawn Porter has a 50% KO rate. Emanuel Agustus is even lower. All are more exciting to watch than Wilder, who has like a 98% KO rate.

That is true, it's exiting when it happens, but man, Wilder can fight a boring fight in the lead up and throw like 10 punches a round. At least with someone like Tyson, he threw crazy eye catching combinations to get the KO.

There are lots of exciting non punchers tbf, and tbh i rarely see someone with close to 0 stoppages in 20 fights praised much for excitment

like, let's say they can get hurt or dropped, but bounce back strong, bring it with lots of punches, come back to out last the stronger guy play to the crowd, etc, that can all be exciting

True, Wilder is an exciting yet dull fighter. You never know when it will happen.

Steve Bunce always added history or a personal anecdote to what should have been a straight fight report....sometimes very leftfield, peculiar and in need of a good bit of sub-editing.

Sometimes it was great in the build-up - nice bit of context - but when he was paid to describe the action it irked. And especially when the action was good and did not need any filler.
