Just seen the WBA Rankings and discovered that Robert Helenius is the new WBA Gold Champion.
How comes?
Was Joyce stripped of the WBA Gold title, when and why? Couldn't find any information online, please explain.
Helenius is now WBA Gold champ according to the rankings, I think his victory over Kownacki elevated him to Gold, correct.
Please bring some light into this strange title mess. Thx

The WBA's GOLD belt was vacant and Joyce wasn't rated in March's ratings and this was discussed on a separate thread, because no one understood why this was the case. As far as I'm concerned, there was no communication made by the WBA or Joe Joyce to explain what had happened.

Joyce must be devastated

Fres Oquendo is still rated by the WBA though.

there are loads of boxers who are described as 'inactive' on here probably because they are not alive

Old news this.. God knows why it happened.. But when Helenius beat Kownacki, that fight was a WBA heavyweight title eliminator.. A few days after the fight, hr was declared the WBA Gold champion.

The WBA created this situation, due to their handling of the situations related to RUSADA, Ruslan Chagaev, Jarrell Miller, Manuel Charr, Trevor Bryan, Lucas Browne, Shannon Briggs etc.

The thing is… the Big O’s previous five victories leading up to his most recent bout, which was the highly-controversial Chagaev defeat, came against journeyman that had (on average) tasted defeat in 39% of their contests (i.e. losing on average 17 bouts each), which is very dire!

What’s even more bizarre, is the fact that Fres Oquendo has never defeated a top-ten world-rated heavyweight opponent during a career spanning 23½ years, but yet he’s turned down world title shots and continues to be ranked by the WBA.

He refused a fight with miller because of drug testing concerns... id say history proved that a smart move wouldn't you?

He has 325k in escrow for the charr fight that was canceled due to drug cheat charr testing positive. He sued charr and the wba saying he should get that money and be declared champ

He has a VERY good chance at getting that money or at least a settlement. Thats his game here. Wba cant drop him of they do it gives validity to his suit claims of damages

This is more complicated than i thought

Oquendo is in bankruptcy and filed suit to collect that escrow money to pay debt

He filed a suit against his management, his promoter, and the german promoter to collect the escrow money

This is still being litigated as of april this year

His action against wba is a separate matter

How many titles does the WBA have?

Is it possible to list all the WBA titles without bogging down the server?

Getting stripped of something called WBA Gold is like being stripped when you're already naked.

I had never even heard of the WBA Gold title until this thread.

I've seen after the Kownacki fight they gave him a WBA medal.

I read about him getting named gold champ like a month after he beat Kow, not right after beating him, not sure he ever had the wba gold belt with him

Btw what is this flag he has here? Does he not consider himself to be a finnish
