Calzaghe is so unprofessional

Not enough time to prepare?? For a guy who's almost built a career on facing TBA thats rich. He's known about the fight date for over a month he easily had time to get himself in shape for February. No doubt he was out painting the town red over christmas and new year. What a wanka.
I cant wait to see him stretched out by someone - the sooner the better as far as I am concerned.

So frustrating isnt it, I mean he managed to pull out of 2 fights with the 2004 voted fighter of the year (Glen Johnson), he just doesn't sound hungry at all. If your a champion you should always be in shape knowing that a big fight could be around the corner.

Yes, compare him to a genuine champ like Bernard Hopkins, always in shape always ready.
I'm ready to see Joe put out of boxing now, or at least on a 'world' stage anyway.

If he fights a top3 guy at the moment he will be beaten easily. I don't think he wants to fight any more. You would think with his profile and only having the WBO belt he would be trying to capture a real world title before it is to late.

Go to any gym in the country, I think you will find even the ameteurs are in condition to take fights at short notice,
So are the six rnd profesional lads who can normally be called in on a couple of days notice, and then thrill us with a six round war.
This Fella who considers himself to be the best in the world , well say no more, .
Joe If he don't want to do it and can't motivate himself well fair enough can't blame him for that. but in that case give the game away, and stop making a goose of himself

Yes, I can well imagine.
Endless months of tense expectation, followed by an entertaining five minute ring walk, an exciting see-saw battle where the outcome is always in the balance, and some magical post fight quotes from the man himself. Repeat just once more, and then wish everybody a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Not a good excuse at all, shows a compleet lack of respect for his fans and for the sport if nothing else the WBO should strip him.

i think he has a deadline to fight Veit. but i don´t know the exact date. i am sure this will be his last fight if he doesn´t more........

He has to fight Veit by June or July I think. Mind you the WBO make up the rules as they go along.

I really couldn't care less about Calzaghe. Man...its almost 8 fornicating years since he won that title and we're still talking about him looking for his definining fight. Forget him. If he really wanted to make a mark in his career he would have moved up to 175lb and gone to America 5 fornicating years ago.

They just made up some 'Super Champ' rules for Joe (allegedly)
PRIVILEGES AFFORDED SUPER CHAMPIONS
Those fighters recommended by the Championship Committee and approved by the Executive Committee qualify for the following rights and privileges:
A. EXTENSION OF MANDATORY TITLE DEFENSE
The Championship Committee may extend a Super Champion’s mandatory title defense for good cause shown one or more times beyond the time provided for in the WBO Regulations for World Championship Contests for the purpose of giving a Super Champion opportunity or opportunities to unify the titles of more than one major sanctioning body either in a unification bout or a unification tournament, or any other important match or matches that the Committee determines would contribute to the Super Champion’s legacy or would be of great interest to boxing fans.
B. ELIGIBILITY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR DESIGNATION AS THE MANDATORY CHALLENGER IN HIGHER OR LOWER DIVISION
If requested by a Super Champion, the Championship Committee may designate the Super Champion as the mandatory challenger for the immediate higher or lower division.
In the case of a Super Champion who has lost a fight since receiving Super Champion designation, the Championship Committee may recommend the designation of the Super Champion as the mandatory challenger for the immediate higher or lower division, which may then be designated by a ¾ vote of the Executive Committee.
C. ELIGIBILITY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR DESIGNATION AS THE MANDATORY CHALLENGER IN SAME DIVISION
If requested by a Super Champion who has lost his title and who wishes to fight for the title again, the Championship Committee may designate the Super Champion as the mandatory challenger in the Super Champion’s division.
In the case of a Super Champion who has lost a fight in addition to the loss of his Championship since receiving Super Champion designation, the Championship Committee may recommend the designation of the Super Champion as the mandatory challenger for the Super Champion’s division, which may then be designated by a ¾ vote of the Executive Committee.
D. PURSE BID
In case of a purse bid involving one or more Super Champions, or when a current WBO Champion is to fight another current WBO Champion or Interim Champion, the following rules shall be applied in conjunction with the purse bid rules contained in the WBO Regulations for World Championship Contests. The purse bid rules contained in this Section govern the division of purses for Championships involving Super Champions and the division of purses for Championships involving current WBO Champions fighting another current WBO Champions and supersede those purse bid rules contained within Section 13 of these WBO Rules, "DIVISION OF PURSE for CHAMPIONSHIPS HELD PURSUANT TO PURSE BID"
When a Super Champion faces another Super Champion or a WBO Champion and a purse bid takes place, the division shall not be less than 80/20 in any case and shall be calculated by the Championship Committee using a ratio based upon the average purse of each fighter’s last three (3) fights. The WBO may rely upon the purses reported to the WBO on the WBO Participant’s Promoter’s receipts for the fights that are used to calculate the Purse Division for this purpose.
The Super Champion purse division contained herein shall also apply to the division of a purse when a current WBO Champion fights another current WBO Champion, when neither are Super Champions.
E. MEMBER FOR LIFE
Honorary member for life.
F. LOSS OF PRIVILEGES
Super Champion privileges may be terminated in the event a Super Champion violates any of the WBO Rules and Regulations, violated the WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests, for unsportsmanlike conduct or activities unbecoming to a professional boxer, for drug abuse, or conviction of a crime involving moral turpitude.
B is my favourite, he could be the mandatory for Erdei at Light-Heavy if he wanted :(

Logically there should be some sort of a box off or an intirim title but I can just see promoters having hissy fits at the idea that their boy is loosing out.

Exactly, don't hold your breath about the WBO stripping him. Freeman Barr was the mandatory for 18 months and was told by the WBO he had to fight someone else to keep the spot, even though they never enforced the mandatory shot he was due against Calzaghe.

The problem is that the two fighters are Warren and Kohl fighters, probably the two biggest WBO promotors, so they cant afford to make any demands to either camp.

Calzaghe should give Veit a rematch - he's much more deserving of a shot than Echols.

Which really says it all when it comes to sanctioning bodies, not just the WBO. It's the promoters who run boxing, the sanctioning bodies are just parasites. Of course there is some good work done by sanctioning bodies with regards to medicals and support systems for boxers, but when it comes to world title rankings, all of them are guilty of pandering to their favourite promoters. Look at Sauerland and the IBF, ever wondered how on earth Ottke got a title shot so early in his career, I certainly have. Look how long Ottke held on to that title and how much money he must have made the IBF. Sanctioning bodies generally don't shit on their own doorsteps.
