Floyd Mayweather vs. Takashi Uchiyama | Exhibition - TBA

It looks as though Floyd Mayweather will fight another smaller guy in his next exhibition bout. According to eFIGHT, plans are in place for Mayweather to face former WBA 130 pound champ Takashi Uchiyama, as soon as the bout is permitted, the coronavirus still making travel to Japan an issue (even for the super-rich “Money,” who has his own private jet).

It’s no secret Mayweather is looking to engage in further exhibition bouts, the “easy money” simply proving irresistable to the 43 year old all-time great. Floyd pocketed a bundle for his easy night’s work with Tenshin Nasukawa, who he stopped inside a round in Japan on New Year’s Eve 2018. The exhibition with Uchiyama will be promoted by RIZIN, and promoter Nobuyuki Sakakibara told Japanese media how “exciting” the bout will be.

“Mayweather versus Takashi Uchiyama is the most exciting,” he said. “There are various problems such as immigration, opponents, money, etc. But communication with the person is progressing nicely. I expect the possibility.”

But will the fans have any real interest in this bout? Once again, Mayweather will have a significant weight advantage over his opponent, with Floyd also being taller than Uchiyama, with a longer reach as well. Uchiyama, known as “Kid Dynamite,” was a fearsome puncher in his prime, scoring 20 KO’s from his 24 wins (two losses and a draw), but the 40 year old has not fought since losing two fights back-to-back to Jezreel Corrales in 2016 – being stopped inside two-rounds in the first fight, and losing a close decision in the return.

Mayweather may well prove a big hit in Japan once again, but it seems U.S fight fans will take a pass with regards to this, yet another fight that has a loaded deck in favor of Mayweather. Another quick win for Floyd? Very possibly. Put it this way – no way does Mayweather lose to Uchiyama. Not a chance.

Again, easy money for the man who can seemingly never get his hands on enough of the stuff.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. earned at least $9m for 139 seconds’ worth of work against Tenshin Nasukawa.

He’ll be at least 43½ years of age for his next exhibition bout, and he’ll almost certainly receive another mammoth-sized payday for a relatively comfortable nights’ work.

Good luck to him, I say. He’s doing something nearly all fighters are jealous of, because he’ll probably receive another eight-digit payday to participate in a safe, easy and meaningless exhibition.

Put it this way, Manny Pacquiao apparently earned $10m to face Keith Thurman, whereas Floyd Mayweather Jr. will receive a similar amount to face Takashi Uchiyama.

People will whine, moan and bitterly complain about this exhibition, but they’ll still tune in. They won’t boycott it. They will still watch the fight even if they don’t see it live.

The only thing is I thought exhibitions were supposed to be like sparring sessions but fm ko'd the little jap kick boxer.
So presumably they will be going for a ko for 3 rounds. Still, not too interesting.

If any other "RETIRED" boxer could make that kind of money for a joke of an opponent. They would smile all the way to the bank.
I can't blame him for taking these exhibitions

Yup, just a pointless exercise.
He should enter the ring dressed as Godzilla with the tiny Japanese guy dressed as a Power Ranger.

tbh, Floyd didnt really go hard on the kid or anything, tenshin just sort of reacted like a wuss. i guess he was a smaller dude but still bruh, wasnt a good look, esp in a warrior culture. usually kickboxers are tough as nails too.

I can remember Takeshi being good fighter a few years back, I know he is probably 40 odd now and hasn't fought in a few years but he should still put up a better show than that twelve year old last time out (which shouldn't be too hard).

I won't be watching, but I wish both men well and say good for them if they can make themselves some easy money.

Even the fanboys don't pay to watch Floyd fight, it's always been the opponents that bring the fans and the money.

Even coming off two losses the 40 year old Takashi Uchiyama must have some following for Floyd to make the risk free, testing free, money collecting, gambling payoff scam trek all the way out there.

Who needs Pacquiao or Canelo again?

At one time people were arguing who was the best 130 Pounder in the World Takashi Uchimaya or Mikey Garcia.

What is it about Floyd that people find likeable? Personality, image, fighting style, opponent selection -- everything is detestable.

It would be brilliant for Floyd to take a dive in one of these to set up the 'real' fight.

I believe there was some fake WWE-style manufactured controversy preceeding the Tenshin Nasukawa exhibition, which helped the event gain attention from the mainstream media.

I expect to see RIZIN employ the same dubious marketing tactics again for this years Takashi Uchiyama exhibition.

So yes, I fully expect there to be "something" deemed highly-controversial about the contractual terms of Floyd's next exhibition, because revenue would have to be raised in order for RIZIN and Floyd to be paid.

Nothing like when a band of Floyd haters gather together to bash the man for entertaining millions to earn himself some extra cash. The man dominated the sport. Get over it.

'entertaining millions'?

Well, that's one way of looking at it. I tend to suspect he was the most disliked champion in our times. Virtually every opponent Floyd faced had more fans. Even in his own back yard.

'earn himself some extra cash'

No one will ever argue with that. Floyd knows how to extract the maximum cash with the minimum of effort. The biggest pantomime villain boxing has seen.

For better or worse, ok worse, Mayweather's shadow looms over the sport of boxing. Canelo is his current protege, but Garcia is already next in line.

'The man dominated the sport.'?

If you're including the judges, the referees, the testing agencies, the promoters, the organisers, fair enough. He did.

Still can't see any reason to like him, but then maybe I was spoit by the Duran, Hagler, Leonard and Hearns generation.

'entertaining millions'?

A healthy adult male can release between 40 million and 1.2 billion sperm cells in a single ejaculation.

Fanboi alert.

The fight with Nasukawa peaked the RIZIN 14 figures (iirc 7.5% of Kanto), so there was certainly interest even if entertainment was lacking.

To put into perspective what 7.5% of Kanto is, Kanto has over 40,000,000 people so... Not too shabby... Especially given TBS pulled out the stops to have a Sasuke special up against it.
