Manuel Medina et al

Kinda random but i thought of him after brilly mentioned Paul Ingle. This dude fought a lot of brits, including beating Scott hARrison. I also remember him getting badly shafted vs Johnny Tapia in a fight Manny seemed to win 9-10 rounds or so. He was something like a 5x world champ or something?
For those famililar with this dude, please help me for a second
This dude was just the least remarkable fighter you might see, right down to having the mug of a boring mexican uncle. Almost totally lacking in any notable 'athleiticsm', in other words, not fast at all, little power, and he wasnt exactly some slickster oozing with skills, etc, also was really just arm punch slapping on a lot of stuff. cut easy too.
What made this man so effective and tricky, and who are some others of his mold. Gotta appreciate guys like this who do so much with seemingly not the greatest gifts.

Around that time he was giving Zaragoza a run for his money for the title of ugliest boxer on the planet. An absolute nightmare of a face.
In terms of boxing, his best asset from what i recall what his subtle movements. Kind of kept his opponents offset. He didn't seem to be all that spectacular at all but I think that kind of herky jerky movement was effective at offsetting the timing of opponents.

I think he just had a long reach and used it in a very awkward way. The first I heard of him was when he fought Hamed and I remember Medina causing problems for Naz throughout that one.

18/19 world title fights, 10-9 or 8 in them.
Beat 10 guys that were world champions.
Won feather title something like 5 times, all away from home as a picked opponent.
Not pretty to watch, but that's some career.

Medina was built like a marathon runner and had stamina to burn and plenty of height and reach, which he used to good effect with long, straight shots. Brendan Ingle switch-hitters struggled with men who threw straight shots, particularly a fine jab. Medina made Naz look pretty ordinary and Junior Witter really struggled with Colin Lynes.

Interestingly, says Alejandro Gonzalez hit harder than Hamed or JMM.

It's not too hard to imagine Medina being a total nightmare for Warrington and Frampton.

If he was a nightmare for Tapia then he would of been for Warrington

Tough and hard as nails, had a few stoppage losses but I think he was only ever counted out against Gainer.

If you search ‘datsue’ and Manuel Medina you’ll find an absolutely brilliant post singing Medina’s praises in the man’s inimitable fashion

Cant legislate for how a perfectly formed heralded rounded boxer will do against a less heralded but experienced quality operator. Real heart, energy, awkwardness, and a different mindset about topping bills, rather than paying them knowing he isn't the next Gomez, Sanchez, JCC in Mexico.
Absolute quality fighter was Medina.

He was a real old stager who you could never be sure wasn't going go pull off the win despite the losses on his record.
So resilient and tough, Medina could just keep bouncing back after defeats to give a good account of himself. Gave all our lads tough nights...Hamed, Ingle, Harrison.
He took some crunching shots against Hamed but lasted late into the fight and tagged Hamed with some surprisingly good shots. Ingle got a surprise too with a knockdown and Harrison came up short in the first fight with Medina punishing Harrsion with straight punches to the body.
