Love that answer. Great example of why fighters should be matched competitively even in early four-rounders - didn't harm either of them.

What's the greatest result after Turpin's win?

The Randy Turpin win was huge, especially as America dominated pro boxing in this era, Robinson was The Man and the MW title was arguably on a par with the HW crown at this juncture.

But I have read around the story a bit and Robinson's European Tour was a risky thing with maybe profit getting in the way of some good judgement.

A lot of fights on the road, lots of travelling when you could not be in the next European city in a couple of hours and there was always the chance that Sugar Ray would run out of gas/underperform and have a bad night with that schedule.

Turpin seized his chance brilliantly at Earls Court and wrote himself straight into the history books....but as much as I liked the Leamington Licker (who was actually more of a Warwick lad) I can't help feeling the Robinson camp made an error of judgement and it was a fight too far at the end of a long tour.

Howard had no business fighting Jim in Scotland, he never recovered.
