Next weekend 47 year old Danny Williams will welcome 40 year old famous Russian MMA fighter Sergey Kharitonov in his boxing debut match.

It's interesting, that Kharitonov had some amateur boxing experience. He notably lost by decision to Robert Helenius in 2007 and to Filip Hrgovic in 2011 in WSB. Also, he won a silver medal at the Central Asian Games in 2003 (for Tajikistan), silver medal at the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships in 2004, silver medal in the Russian Boxing Championship in 2004.

What are you thoughts on this?

My thoughts are that Danny has accepted a certain amount of roubles to travel over to Russia and lose. Williams has lost to several Russian debutants and hopefully it pays well...

Can’t see how it pays. Unless the “he beat Mike Tyson “ selling angle is stronger than I thought.

It’s the sort of fight that’s worse than usual for Danny. Facing a no doubt fairly terrible but heavy handed boxer, Danny might end up doing more rounds than is good for him.

Yeah, it's a bad matchup for Williams. Kharitonov, despite no pro boxing experience, has decent boxing skills and big punching power, while he isn't washed up like Danny. Probably Kharitonov will KO Williams in a couple of rounds.

Williams was dreadful. He gets wobbled with any more or less heavy blow. Kharitonov openly tried not to KO Williams fast, what an embarrassment. Williams was down once in the 1st and TKOed in the 2nd after being wobbled back and showing no desire to continue.

After the bout Kharitonov's promoter Hryunov said, they wanted David Haye next...

How is this barbaric sideshow of Danny Williams career allowed ? His opponent actually looked embarrassed last night, everybody involved should be as well, shameful. He looked unsteady on his feet even when the ref clapped him on the shoulder before the first bell

Yeah I thought Danny looked a bit out of it sitting on his stool before the fight even started.

Sounds like the kind of work retired boxers should be doing, maybe Williams should take a leaf out of Hide's book.

Basically Kharitonov hit Danny as gently as he could in the 2nd round and stood back when Danny badly wobbled , he didn't want to hurt Danny

Kharitonov told after the fight, that his coach had given him a plan to box for some rounds and to go for a KO in the later rounds, but Williams just was too bad for that plan.

He should have been stopped from fighting years ago.

Sad to see, the Russian looked pretty awful as well but luckily for Williams it wasn't a full contact fight!

I know everyone does stuff for money but how much is he getting for this? I can't see him getting more than a couple of grand, in London most folk if they put their head down can earn that in a couple of weeks.

Apart from anything else Danny is almost 50 now

Danny actually always looks in decent physical condition, he's not looking massively overweight, and I dare say on the bag or light spar looks ok , but once the bell rings in a real fight he's gone.

Kharitonov way passed his best as well, but he was clearly feeling guilty in there. He'd have been a handy HW had he started his pro journey in the sport earlier.

That Williams wobble looks bad...Danny can't possibly take many more shots.

I'm surprised Danny doesn't knock himself out shaving. Awful to watch, wish he'd pack it in, but the damage is done.

Question, is there any other Heavyweight title challenger who has more career losses than Danny?

He's now at 29 losses, can anyone name a boxer that had challenged for the title and ended their career with more losses

Damon Reed had 20 losses and 6 nc

Fireman Jim Flynn had 45 losses , there's probably more from pre war days
