Carl Froch opens up on the huge money he made in his boxing career

'Wikipedia puts my net worth at $20m. I don't know where they get that from... but it's accurate': Carl Froch opens up on the huge money he made in his boxing career... and why he never fought rival Joe Calzaghe

Carl Froch insists Wikipedia's $20million (£15m) net worth valuation of him is 'quite accurate'.

The former super-middleweight world champion, who now works for Sky Sports, was speaking on the Gary Newbon Sports Show about his wealth and his career.

But Froch, who reportedly earned £10m for beating George Groves, insists 'money isn't everything' to him as his family - including wife Rachael, son Rocco and daughters Natalia and Penelope - is more important.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxin ... 7324476468

'I did OK throughout my career. Financially I am in a great position. I don't know where Wikipedia get their figures from. But you can Wikipedia it "Carl Froch net worth" and it's around $20m,' Froch said.

'I won't say that's correct either way but it's quite accurate. I've done very well out of the sport but you know money isn't everything.

'I have three kids, I have my health. I can have a conversation without a problem. I wake up with my children I have breakfast with them every day, I take them to school and pick them up every day.

'My daughter started school this week. I love my kids so much. That's my wealth. My wealth is my health and my children and my love for my family. I have never really been motivated by money.'

Froch was also asked why he never fought unbeaten Welsh fighter Joe Calzaghe as Froch was Calzaghe's mandatory challenger at one point in their careers.

Froch said: 'That would have been a great fight. If you asked Joe Calzaghe who would win he would say straight away without even thinking about it he would say: "Easy fight for me, I would have beat him no problem. I'm all wrong for him."

'If you asked me who wins that fight, there's a very high chance Calzaghe beats me on points. It's very conceivable that I would lose that fight on points. He had fast hands, a high work-rate that I've never seen in that division.

'He's got toughness, high work-rate, how do you beat him? I think I would have backed him up and beat him. I think the fight could have gone either way.

'I think I could have stopped him but I could have lost on points. Why did it not happen? I was mandatory for his title. He didn't want the fight so he vacated the belt.

'Whether he didn't want the fight or not, he vacated the title. When he could have fought me or vacate the belt, he vacated the belt. The fight didn't happen because Joe Calzaghe didn't want the fight to happen.'

That's true.

Froch never ducked anyone & has run of high quality opposition rarely matched by any other fighter for many a year.

I love it when a successful fighter retires with his health, in his prime and with millions in the bank. Wish it was the norm but it isn't.

I like Carl even though he talks crap sometimes .
and Calzaghe would have beaten him soundly I feel , probably over the 12 rather than a stoppage .

A young Calzaghe would've taken Carl within the distance, probably meeting for the British belt if same era unless different promoters or whatever.

Or, say, an eliminator for the British title.

what fantastic statement from carl. he's spot on about what gives life meaning, that's why he's a happier man than someone like mayweather. i've only just got a taste of this lifestyle through work from home

Wonder what Calzaghe got left? Bet it's no where near what Froch has earned .

Nowhere near, although he will have lost a lot to his wife and the winding down of whatever company it was of FW's he took to court (and won).

Well you say that, but Joe was a champ for 10 years and had way more fights than Carl.

Not really sure what the point of his article is.

I'm glad Carl Froch has done well financially in his career. You can't begrudge him it.

But do we really need to know the specifics? That's between him and his accountant. Who is sitting there wondering exactly how much money Carl Froch has?

I think if you take everything into account, he won less via purses and lost more via promoter and wife/divorce.

Still, I'd love to be in his financial position.

I think he got $10m for Jones which is obviously a lot of money but is by far and away his biggest earner. I can't imagine he got "that" much for Reid, Salem, Evans Ashira etc and a bunch of those other WBO defences.

Loved Joe as amateur and pro, but met him after he retired and he was ignorant. Rude, anyway. And it wasn’t a dinner do, it was ringside at a Khan fight.
Speaking of dinner shows he cancelled on Mark Bateson at five hours notice to a sold out show. Hatton stood in but nearly everyone had seen him before.
