Would Muniz win a world title if he were in his prime today ?

Good question. If we're talking welterweight champion of the world then we have to compare him to Spence,Crawford,Porter, and Pacquiao. Spence is a very good boxer but he is also very careful. i think Mando would pressure him too much and beat him,maybe stop him in the later rounds. Crawford,who I think is better than Spence, is also a very good boxer,but like Spence I don't think he could handle Mando's attack. Porter is a fire plug guy who doesn't fight to his best ability. He likes to stay in the middle of the ring too much. Mando again beats him in my guess. If you look at Manny 10/15 years ago then I think Manny outworks Mando in a great fight.I usually don't like to get into the hypothetical thing ,but i owe you one for the bum info I gave you on Eddie Mazon.

Good stuff, Roger. Muniz and Clyde Gray-who had a terrific bout, as you well know-are 2 of the nicest guys I've ever had the chance to spend time with.

- Know you stick to the west coast forum and know all them ol guys in their glory years, but Welts today are middles come fight nite, so you'd be better matching him vs Loma or Luis Ramirez who probably do a number on him.
Not to disparage Mando who was a fine, exciting fighter in his day and still with us today, but he was 1-6 vs HOF fighters similar to his analogue Espada who was 0-4 and yet beat him.

Broughton, I think you're being a little rough on that generation of welters. As opposed to todays fighters, who fight once or twice a year, guys like Muniz, Ernie Lopez, Hedgemon Lewis, Harold Weston, Adolph Pruitt, Chato Soriano and Clyde Gray fought everybody and often. I'll look at Spence - who is a genuine talent - defending his title against a fighter with a very pretty and glossy undefeated record, and then I'll look at his opponents. And I'll be damned if I recognize one name on the ledger (and I keep my ear to the ground). Push comes to shove, I would pick those 70s fighters in a heartbeat.
