McGuigan on Superstars.

A good effort from Barry there on Superstars, came in 5th or 6th but it very close from 2-8. He should have come second in the gym test because Jonathon Davies wasn't doing the dips properly.
He looked in very good shape and obviously worked hard in the months before to do well, giving his size disadvantages, I think he did very well.

McGuigan really impressed on in the gym tests, he had the best form of all of them (Jonathon Davies was clearly cheating with the dips). McGuigan scored 80 something for the dips and 73 for the squats, that would normally be enough for an easy victory - but he finished behind Jonathon and Ellery Hanley in that event.
He was respectable in all the events he competed it - 3rd in Swimming, 3rd in Football, 3rd in Mountain Biking and was very close to getting second in all of these ones. He finished way off in the 800 after going off like a train.
It was nice to see a boxer do well and be so up for it, A little bit more luck and he might well have finished second overall, John Regis though was a worthy winner. As I said before, Barry had certainly trained hard for this, he arms were looking cut and he had a washboard stomach.

Makes a change, boxers normally do very badly for some reason in Superstars, wayne McCulloch was doing ok until he cut his feet to shreds doing the squat thrusts. steve collins really didn't do well at all.
It's pretty impressive considering how long Mcguigan has been retired that he's so fit. i only saw the end, the rower went up that hill on his mountain bike like he had a fornicating motor attached.

I heard that a certain boxer (not mentioned above) who appeared on the first series of superstars had to have his stomach pumped the weekend before he travelled out to Spain for the filming. Not surprisingly he didn't fare all that well.

That's funny, what an awful prospect, competing in superstars after the mother of all pissups almost kills you.
