This is something that I've been wanting to see for a long time. I recently listened to a Howard Stern interview with Roy Jones Jr. and he briefly mentioned that his dad fought Hagler which got me, again, wanting to try and get a hold of this footage. I put feelers out there for this a while back, but came up dry. Does anyone know if this footage exists?

The Roy Jones that Hagler fought wasnt Roy Jones Jr's dad. Theyve been passing that story off for years.

Conflicting stories on this. Back in the pre internet era I read Phil Berger's rubbishing of Big Roy's claim, and believed it. But years later on the internet I was shown some photos from the fight and the opponent was the absolute spitting image of Roy Jones Jr, face and physique.

Roy talks briefly about his dad fighting Hagler at around 1:22:00 mark. It really did seem like Jr. believed it.

Looking over Roy Jones' record, it looks like Vegas was his hometown. I would expect him to fight somewhere out of Florida so that's something that doesn't quite gel with what I would expect.

Would be nice to see those photos of the fight. That outta clear it up. The photo that I've seen from doing a google search didn't really clear anything up to me.

The Roy Jones who fought Hagler lived in Kalamazoo Michigan but fought out if Vegas. He wasnt Roy Jones Sr.

Pretty bizarre that Jr. seemed to have ran with the story as well, but maybe he truly believed, or still believes that his dad fought Hagler. Would like to hear a more recent take on this from Jr.

They arent even remotely the same the person.

If I just saw the guy in the second pic I could definitely believe that was RJJ's Dad.

I can see why people would have jumped to that conclusion.

I don't know... it's not even close. I'm seeing a totally different person in that second pic.

Judging by the date on the second photo, was that taken from a newspaper clipping of promo for the fight against Jeff Morgan?

I would love to see those action shots of Hagler vs Roy Jones again, to see whether I still thought Jones was a dead ringer for RJJ.

I meant if I just saw the second pic (without ever a having seen the actual Roy Jones Snr) I could believe that guy was RJJ's Dad because he has some somewhat similar facial features to Roy. Not saying he looks exactly like him but I could believe they were related.

I think his father much more resembled "Smokin" Burt Cooper from that second photo anyway.
