Australian Boxing According to Joe Bonds 1915

Just read three of a series of articles in a 1915 Tacoma newspaper written by American heavyweight boxer Joe Bonds. A couple of interesting points. According to him, Australian boxing had outlawed the rabbit punch, kidney punch, and something called the shamrock punch, which sounds from his description, like an uppercut. He also complains they discourage infighting and penalize fighters for it, preferring defensive boxers to slugging types.
Another interesting feature of Australian rings is an automatic time clock which taps off the rounds and keeps accurate time. "...When the fight starts, the gong rings and the clock begins running. At the end of three minutes it rings for the end of the round, and in another minute it rings again for the opening of the next round..."
Interesting to read his views on the Australian ring in 1915.
