Queensberry Promotions unveil new four-man matchmaking team

Four new matchmakers tasked with testing talents

Queensberry Promotions today announced a new four-man matchmaking unit tasked with propelling Queensberry’s exciting roster of young British talent to new heights.

Steve Furness, Errol Johnson and Neil Bowers are the men handling the UK matchmaking duties, whilst New York-based Rick Glaser will oversee international affairs.

Queensberry only recently parted ways with previous matchmaker Jason McClory and Hall-of-Fame promoter Frank is excited to begin this new era.

Warren said: “This is a crucial time for Queensberry Promotions and I have full confidence in the men we’ve selected to lead the charge in terms of matchmaking.

“Our roster of young talent is unrivalled anywhere in world boxing, and the careers of guys like Daniel Dubois, Dennis McCann, David Adeleye and Hamzah Sheeraz - to name just a few - need to be guided with care and intelligence.

“With Steve, Errol and Neil we have a breadth of boxing knowledge that spans the entire country and, with Rick, we also have an international eye that will help us scour the globe for talent.

“I wish Jason all the best in his future endeavours but it was time for a change, time to kick our operation into a higher gear and I think we’ve done just that.

“This is a critical time in the history of British boxing and I’m happy that the team we’ve assembled will help keep Queensberry Promotions at the front of the pack when it comes to talent and career development.”

Furness, Johnson, Bowers and Glaser have taken up their posts with immediate effect.

Pretty sure Neil Bowers was always a matchmaker for Frank.. Unless he was at Matchroom.

Just me thinking Rick Glaser always comes across as a bit of a prick on social media?

Glad Neil has got in there again. He was very good to deal with and to be honest the undercard matchmaking at Matchroom went down hill as soon as he was ousted.

Even allowing for the budget limitations, some of the matchmaking on these lockdown BT shows has been piss poor.

Mark Chamberlain v Stu Greener
Joe Joyce v Michael Wallisch
Willie Hutchinson v Ben Thomas
Daniel Dubois v Ricardo Snijders

There are more

The Hutchinson mismatch was the worst piece of matchmaking since Eubank Jnr v Jeter.

I hope the new team raise the standard or else the downward descent the sport is on, will only continue post-lockdown.
