I think mine was the James Murray death and in particular the morons in the crowd while the poor sod was flat out on the floor. I was only watching on TV but that was really the only time I questioned myself for being into the sport.

Anytime there is a death in the ring. But the one that struck me hard is when Johnny Owen was being carried out to the ambulance on a stretcher when some scumbag picked the stretcher bearer's pocket. The crowd at the Olympic that night turned feral

The tragic stuff around the first British SMW golden era.
They were great days and rivalries and Calzaghe, Groves, Froch and DeGale would continue the story.

Mike Watson's second fight with Eubank in 1991 was awful in terms of Mike nearly dying in the ring and then there would be Benn's fight with The G-Man in 1995 which was almost the same. Epic fights for sure.....appalling, tragic outcomes.

Hmmm...no particular event that really pushed me to the lowest, more like an accumulation of good fights not happening, weak points in divisions, etc

tbh, ring deaths dont actually bother me too much, obviously it's tragic but these men know what theyre getting into and injury is part of the game. its unfortunate but boxing keeps on going

Darren Sutherland taking his own life, I’d had a couple of people I was close to die young around that time and so mortality and stuff was on my mind anyway and can remember being shocked and proper gutted when I heard. As some else said the James Murray death played on my mind a lot, was on my way to a pro gym for some sparring in preparation for potentially turning over when it came on the radio he had died.

As a fan, probably October-4-1997 when Andrew Golata was blown out in the first round by Lennox Lewis.
(had such hopes for his career after the fights with Reddick Bowe)
it was on pay-for-view
but couldnt watch it because didn't have the "Doe-Ray-Me
was down-town that evening (got dark early)and called from a pay phone from a convience store to hear the results from someone who was watching it.

Castillo/Corrales 1 was a bad night for me as a Castillo fan.

I was upset when Gatti was killed, and the bizarre circumstances surrounding all that.

Pac vs Morales 3 was a sad one to behold for me.

Most disgusted: Tyson/Holy II
Most saddened: learning that sal sanchez was killed
Most horrified: watching Gerald Mac in that fight knowing something was wrong with him and of course that happened
Most Pissed off: too many to name.

When I see fighters really struggling with dementia and assorted serious health issues later in life, it makes me wonder if we wouldn't be better off steering people away from a sport that takes such a severe toll. Especially when you consider that all too many who face that plight did not make life changing money doing it.

"It's a brutal sport" is really true in so many ways. But, I'm with the previous poster who said they choose to do what they do. Nobody is forced to fight and most of these guys have to be dragged away from active participation in the sport with their teeth marks still on it, so it blunts the tragedy a bit.

As a Pole, I'd consider Klitschko v Adamek. They made so much fuss about this fight. Biggest boxing event in Poland, first PPV event in Poland (big fights usually was broadcasted on free TV) and Klitschko beat Adamek so badly. So one-sided. I even remember commentators crying for Klitschko to finish the fight as it looked so ulgy and brothers had that tendency to toy with their opponents. Judging it now, Adamek had no chance. Too small and he simply wasn't that good in the heavy.

It reminds me of other Klitschko vs Povetkin, as I'm Russian. It was a huge fight for us. But it was so one-sided and dirty as hell. Klitschko was clinching more than ever, while it seemed like he just should have been a little bit sharper to KO Povetkin, who had already been broken down in every way.

That's caused the rumor, that Klitschko had been paid not no KO Povetkin in front of his fans, and I quite believe it. Cause in such bouts Klitschko was usually stopping his opponents, while against Povetkin he chose that excessive hustling-hugging display.

Also, in that fight Povetkin's brother was in his corner and he was shouting out loud stupid advices like: "Sasha, hit this motherf*cker". It was heard well on the TV translation, that was so embarrassing.

It's a perfect example of how dull this era for heavyweight boxing was. Wladimir fought Mormeck, Thompson, Wach and Pianeta in four cosecutive defences. Not too impressive. And Klitschkos had that contract with RTL (German TV). More commercials between rounds, better contract for Klitschkos. This is why they rarely pursued KO victories. Wach, Briggs or Adamek fights are painful to watch. They should've been KOd easily, but they were beaten so badly too long because Klitschkos didn't push the action as much as they could.

Of course, we can't blame them. Cornermen and officials need to do their job. Briggs and Wach fights should've been stopped. Too much punishment inflicted. Nevertheless, current HW era with Fury, Joshua and Wilder is much better. Klitschkos were dominant, but their fights didn't bring excitement.

Well, Wach has a freakish chin. Wlad landed some big shots on Wach. While Vitali isn't that big puncher like Wlad, he is more of a volume puncher.

Anyway, the Klitschko era indeed wasn't very intertaining because of the lack of an appropriate competition. It happened so that only Klitschkos were on such level at that time. While they also brought a pragmatic style of boxing, which could be understood as well, cause Wlad was chinny. While Vitali was a sort of an appendage to Wlad. Wlad was facing the best opposition possible, Vitali was facing the remains.

The current era is much better for sure. Can't argue with that.

TBH, realistically, who else was ther as opponents.

Wlad was a 3 belt world champion, hardly took any voluntaries, he just went through mandatories..

Most of these guys were upcomers, obviously not that good, he took so many 0's as well.

Just an example.. This was TBRB's top 10 from Jan 2013.

Heavyweight
1. Wladimir Klitschko
2. Vitali Klitschko
3. David Haye
4. Alexander Povetkin
5. Tomasz Adamek
6. Kubrat Pulev
7. Eddie Chambers
8. Tyson Fury
9. Robert Helenius
10. Steve Cunningham
-------------------

From the above, all of them apart from Helenius and Cunningham fought for the World title, either before this date or just after..

Tyhe fact that none of them were good enough or competitive enough (apart from Fury) with the Klits, they're automatically crap.

Helenius is still fighting today and just KO'd Kownacki.

Yeah, that's a popular misbelief, especially among the Klit-haters. The thing is, Wlad was the only elite level guy. He faced the best opposition possible and some of those guys were good, but not elite.

Cried as a kid when Cruz beat McGuigan and was devastated when Witherspoon knocked out Bruno, same when Jackson knocked out Bomber Graham....... could not believe it.

Absolute lowest point though, was being f*cking stupid enough to pay to go and see Haye vs Harrison........ it wouldn't have been so bad had I seen the Groves vs Anderson bout, but I'd gone out to buy drinks and they wouldn't let me back in....... so as that great fight was happening, I was in the foyer trying to down 4 pints as quickly as I could. :witzend:

Wladimir was king of the dung heap. In his prime he couldn't even keep hold of a cheap WBO belt. In hindsight it's no wonder Fury bossed him.

Thing with Fury is, he is really unpredictable.. You literally don't know which way to go with him..

That put off Wlad big time..

I mean compare that to when Wlad fought AJ?

He was perfectly fine wasn't he?

Aside from deaths, Ali's loss to Holmes left me very low.
