Tim Tszyu to face Bowyn Morgan, date/location TBA

Following his career-best demolition of Jeff Horn, Tim Tszyu’s team raised the possibility of challenging Patrick Teixeira for the WBO super welterweight title. The WBO ended up putting the kibosh on that, and Fox Sports Australia now reports that Tszyu will instead face Bowyn Morgan in his return to the ring. The date and venue will be announced “soon.”



New Zealand’s Morgan (21-1, 11 KO), who lost a controversial decision to Scott Fitzgerald at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, is 14-0 since a 2016 loss to Kris George. None of those 14 wins came against anyone of note, making this more of a stay-busy fight for Tszyu (16-0, 12 KO) than anything resembling a step up or even sideways in competition.

Tszyu is presently ranked in all four sanctioning bodies’ top 10s, including a #2 spot with the WBO. Let’s hope that they don’t keep him treading water like this for long.

With the shitty state of boxing right now Tim Tszyu should forget about this Browyn guy. Offer Crawford a step up in weightclass, Amir Khan, Chirs Eubank jr, JCC jr something like that.

Hopefully it's a trick of the light but Morgan looks like he's rocking T-Rex arms.

Tim Tszyu returns Dec 16

WBO #2, IBF #4, WBC #7, WBA #8 light middleweight Tim Tszyu (16-0, 10 KOs) will clash with New Zealander, IBF#15 welterweight Bowyn Morgan (21-1, 11 KOs) on December 16 at the Bank West Stadium in Sydney, NSW, Australia.

Australian heavyweight contender and Rugby League legend Paul Gallen will clash with UFC and MMA star Mark Hunt on the undercard on a Main Event Foxtel Pay-Per-View show.

“It’s incredible to be in this position to put on one of the biggest live sporting events in Australia after the year we’ve all had,” said the CEO of No Limit Boxing, George Rose. “Hats off to everyone, especially the New South Wales Government, for the way in which they have managed the response to the pandemic, because the reality is without it, we wouldn’t be here today announcing this exciting event for punters to enjoy the week before Christmas.

“I expect it to not only be the biggest crowd for a fight in Australia this year, but also the biggest audience – full stop. Why wouldn’t it be? You’ve got the undisputed star of Australian boxing in Tim ( Tszyu) taking on the best from New Zealand in (Bowyn) Morgan.

“Then there’s the two legends, two absolute sporting icons in Gal ( Paul Gallen) and Mark ( Hunt) Everyone knows there’s no love lost between these two.”

Australia will host one more major boxing event this year, albeit an extremely strange one. Two previously announced matchups, Tim Tszyu vs. Bowyn Morgan and rugby veteran Paul Gallen vs. former UFC title challenger Mark Hunt, will share a December 16th card in Sydney’s Bankwest Stadium.

Both matchups feature Aussie vs. Kiwi action. Rockdale’s Tszyu (16-0, 12 KO) is coming off the biggest win of his career, an eight-round demolition of Jeff Horn this past August that left him the highest-ranked WBO super welterweight contender behind mandatory challenger Brian Castano. Christchurch’s Morgan (21-1, 11 KO), an accomplished amateur who’s won 14 straight since a 2016 upset loss to Kris George, isn’t expected to dislodge him.

Gallen (9-0-1, 5 KO) against Hunt (0-1-1, 0 KO) would have been pretty one-sided about, oh, five years ago. Hunt’s now 46, on the wrong end of some nasty beatings, and will probably be taking advantage of the fact that he no longer has to make 265 pounds. I’m pulling for the “Super Samoan,” but even a rugby convert might be too much for him at this point.

Hunt vs Gallen is an interesting addition. Hunt in any kind of shape would be an easy pick but 46, not fighting for 2 years. who knows what he will be looking like, could easily be 300lbs+. Gallen is old too but will be fit, and is better than most footy players. Would of rather see Gallen vs SBW to be Honest though.

Bowyn Morgan is scheduled to fight this weekend.

saw a few earlier fights of Tim Tszyu didnt look out of this world, but his horn fight he looked switched on tough good hands strong , if he caries on like that he will be fighting for titles

Bowyn Morgan promises to knockout Tim Tszyu

Kiwi boxer Bowyn Morgan 21-1 (11) has vowed to take the fight out of the judges’ hands when he squares up against Australian star Tim Tszyu 16-0 (12) over 10 rounds at Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta, Sydney on December 16.

“I know coming over there, I have to put him away to get the win. I know that,” the 31-yar-old said before leaving New Zealand.

“There can’t be judges entailed for me to get the win… I just know with my fighting style compared to his, for me, I have to get him out of there.”

Tszyu, 26, is coming off a career-best win when he knocked out former WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn 20-3-1 (13) in eight rounds in Townsville in August.

That victory followed a stellar 2019 that say the fast-rising junior middleweight contender overcome former Commonwealth champion Denton Vassell, Australian champion Joel Camilleri, world-rated Dwight Ritchie and popular Cronulla slugger Jack Brubaker.

“He’s been boxing great, Tim, at the moment,” Morgan said.

“He’s got great hands, good footwork. I just thought he hasn’t fought someone like me who comes forward on that front foot.

“As much as he says he wants that, let’s see.”

Asked about Tszyu’s biggest weakness, Morgan said: “On the inside. No one has pushed him on the front foot. As much as he wants it, no one has.

“That’s a weakness.”

Morgan, who works as a personal trainer, revealed he was approached by Team Tszyu 2.0 about a fight last year but was forced to knock it back due to a pre-existing commitment.

“The reason that got turned down is because I already had an IBF Pan Pacific title fight scheduled and because of COVID that got taken away,” he said.

“This is a massive opportunity for me, I can’t wait to take it with both hands.”

The Tszyu-Morgan fight will top a deep card that also feature Paul Fleming vs Bruno Tarimo, Ty Telford vs Darragh Foley, Liam Wilson vs Rodynie Rafol and Luke Jackson vs Tyson Lantry. Former rugby league player Paul Gallen will also face ex-MMA star Mark Hunt at heavyweight.

“I represent the last name Tszyu all around the world, in Russia and Australia, to all the diehard boxing fans from everywhere. We’re coming for the same thing. I don’t want to leave it to the judges either.

“I’ve got a big reach advantage. If he tries to box me on the outside, he won’t land a punch. Not one punch. His only option is to come forward and get inside, there’s no other option. Let’s just be sure that when he tries to come forward, he will get clocked. I’m coming for the knockout.”

Tszyu vs. Castano Could in Play - If Teixeira is Unable To Defend Title

Depending on the circumstances in the coming weeks, rising junior welterweight star Tim Tszyu could be in line for a crack at the WBO world title.

On December 16th at Bankwest Stadium, Tszyu will collide with Bowyn Morgan

The World Boxing Organization has made it clear - that if current champion Patrick Teixeira is unable to set a fight with mandatory challenger Brian Castano by January 6 - then Tszyu could face Castano for the belt in early 2021.

The winner of the potential Tszyu-Castano bout would then have to make a mandatory defense against Teixeira.

“They know the situation, if he doesn’t get it in time, he’s going to be stripped of the title and Castano and Tszyu is on the cards,” WBO chairman Danny Leigh said to WA Today.

“Obviously the winner of that would have to fight Teixeira, because he’s not being demoted for any other reason than visas. It’s a very good opportunity. Tim has got to be on point tomorrow, but it’s awesome for Australian boxing. I’m very happy to be involved with that.”

But Tszyu is not looking too far ahead - as he faces an opponent who lost only once in 22 fights.

“I’ve got this guy in front of me and then we can think about that,” Tszyu said.

Tszyu will returning from the biggest win of his career, which took place a few months ago when he battered and stopped former WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn.

Besides a world title clash, there is also talk of Tszyu being featured on the undercard of a potential clash between unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez and mandatory challenger George Kambosos - which is targeted to take place in the first half of 2021.

cant see much else but a Tszyu ko, really impressed with his win against horne, if he improves from that fight he has a real chance of a world title

I've seen a few of his fights, ringside or thereabouts. Guy's one of those volume pressure fighers, nothing tricky, average power, great engine.
If he travels OK, and got enough time off work to train, I think Bowyn will put up a good show.
In reality, I give him a 30% chance, its a decent step up. Bowyn can take a reasonable shot, watched him step up to WW, and face the NZ champ, in a one off fight, who was throwing some stern leather. It didn't deter Bowyn.

No, like I said, I've seen him live. He has only been on 3 televised cards that I know of.
Bowyn is stocky through the trunk. With Pac calves, which is probably why the Mrs likes him

well seeing tszyu , if your boy is strong will help as tszyu bullied horne, and you have to back youre boy, ill defo watch it though , hopefully a good scrap.. and whats your calve routine haha

Generally just tie the back legs to a strainer post, and f*ck them in the nostril
