I’m subscribing to it again after a 10 year gap, it’s great to be back and it’s looking good these days.

Not sure about Matt Christie’s editorial though, tip toeing around Hearn again - faint criticism about his low rent PPV journey men heavy round robbins ( little more than glorified prizefighter tournies ) but hiding behind “hardcore boxing fans say” rather than BN says ...from his comments he clearly reads this forum as well, so that’s good.
I know he doesn’t want to go to war with the main man Eddie Hearn, but really as an independent editorial, he has to stand up to the feckless baboon, especially over that business of junior suddenly becoming a spokesman for Sky - as to why they have decided not to show the super fight this weekend - all agreed by that chinless wonder Adam Smith no doubt

Glyn Leach didn't pull any punches. If BN cannot objectively critique Hearn then the publication is trash and no more trustworthy than Shortlist.

I bought it last week for the first time in a while. It was a very good read, I will also go back to buying it regularly.

What is the super fight they are not showing this weekend? Sorry, what with all this covid business and politics you lose track what is happening.

I don’t think they show preference to any promoter. There have been times over the last few months where I’ve disagreed with their thoughts on both Matchroom and FW shows.

I’ve said it on a few other threads but Sky were the only TV broadcaster to make an offer for the Lomachenko fight. Bob rejected the offer and decided to put it on PPV with Fite - doesn’t seem like a case of Sky deciding not to show it.

I subscribed a month or so back once I stopped getting it as cover for Boxing Monthly - it cost £120 for 12 months with the physical magazine and access online - well worth it!

I usually just browse the internet on my phone but bought a new tablet a few days ago so thinking of treating myself to an online BN subscription to go with it.

If you're a boxing fan then you really should be a subscriber as the scope and depth of the content is consistently superb. They've pulled in the long-form style features of BM alongside the quotes-led features, it's incredible how they put it together like that every week. The magazine during lockdown when there was zero boxing was a fantastic read every week, they really got into the history of the sport and the knowledge in the articles was superb.

As for the most recent issue, I was surprised the editorial didnt lead on the dempsey/haye/blm furore instead of getting a little bit further inside. However, the PPV stuff is interesting as now the football is going to be PPV I would think the casual market Eddie has built his business model on will take a serious hit. Warren could have realised this so switched Joyce v DDD to normal BT Sport so will be interesting to see what Matchroom's B-level heavyweight fights will attract.

I used to look forward to getting it on Thursday, or even a Friday .. but most often had to settle for a Saturday back then.
First started getting it when it was proper Boxing News under Harry Mullan; pages of boxing news and articles to read with the occasional bw picture. But soon got frustrated at the rubbish that Claude Abrams turned it into; less and less boxing news or articles to read, and more and more pictures .. the cost seemed to go up every month, and they tried to make a big deal of the increased pages but it was just more adverts and pictures not anything more to read - you could read it all in less than an hour; totally lost it way.

Have they improved it now from the bad days of Claude Abrams?

It’s a really good read now. Their articles are strong, they’ve got a solid team of writers and I now look forward to getting it each and every week.

Have mentioned on another thread how much I rate it. Matt doing a brilliant job. I did take issue with one point. Fight Camp was not free. It was on subscription tv

I think I pay something like £19.99 every three months for the magazine and the online stuff, it’s well worth it.
I just hope it can thrive and doesn’t end up like Boxing Monthly which was a very sad loss.

Maybe I will give it another go .. if I can find a newsagents that stock it; was hard enough to get it when I subscribed to it back then!

Listening to the BN pod that was recorded on Sunday, they touched on the O’Connor scandal but suggested they’d speak more in depth on the Thursday pod. Matt Christie was careful with what he said but he clearly wasn’t happy with what went on.

I think they were fair about. The front cover said ‘absolute stinker’, Christie’s opening editorial was called ‘the bog of eternal stench’ and it was solely focused on the judging of that fight.

They also had people’s opinions on it, covered it in the review of the fight and they also had Neil Fannon (Ritson’s trainer) do the guest column and he attempted to justify why he thought Ritson won (which he was vocal about during the fight.

Yes, I noticed that. I think twice he referred to it as being free - a very strange starting off point.

It's still like that.. In the Loma v Lopez issue a 6-page Eddie Hearn interview featured 3 full page photos.

i dont mind the photos but the fight report for loma v lopez was poor, it hardly mentioned anything about the fight and most of it seemed to be about the build-up.

I quite liked it because it was different to all of the other fight reports I read online about the fight.

The 4 page feature on Frankie Duarte last week was brilliant. The type of well written piece that box monthly used to run.
The incredible story of the 1970’s LA golden boy destined for stardom, whose hard partying life style saw him become an alcoholic junkie homeless on the streets for many years, before launching an impossible comeback in the 80’s towards a world title shot and possible redemption.

It’s a crazy story.
