Reading up on Bobby Dunlop, retired at 24, does anyone know why he died so young? can't seem to find cause of death online.

39-6..great fighter at a time when world rankings and title shots were harder to come by! Held a win over Guilio Rinaldi and went to the sixth with all time great Jose Torres! Impressive!

I use to talk to local legend Clive Stewart a bit. He beat Bobby in his last 2 fights. But he said Bobby was only a bit of a novice and hard fights. Too young too pass away that’s for sure.

I was with Clive Stewart at Bobby’ Dunlop’s funeral also John McColl. The eulogy given by Bob’s mate who worked with him on the Merchant ship was excellent. Unfortunately Bob became a smoker after his retirement from boxing.

He was also believed to have been Terry ("Mr Asia") Clark's bodyguard for a while. Not good company.

Bobby worked as a garbage collector during his time boxing in sydney while training with Ern McQuillan and at the time of his passing Bobby worked on merchant ships. He also worked at the Coogee Bay hotel as a bouncer where Maile Haumona and Terry Archer later worked. The Coogee Bay hotel owned by bookmaker Terry Page
Bobby told me about the time former opponent Roy Thurgar challenged him at the hotel. Dunlop and Thurgar went toe to toe for several minutes in a classic street battle with Dunlop finishing on top

I was a huge fan of Bobby's.
In his heyday, I was walking down Elizabeth St with a scouse rough nut shipmate, Jimmy (We were seamen)
This guy comes running towards us side stepping weaving passed pedestrians.
As he a approaches us, Jimmy stops, the runners jigs, steps around us & is gone.
Jimmy looks at me & says, "I shoulda put one on that clown"
I said, you'da had your work cut out.
That's Bobby Dunlop the British empire light heavy weight champ.
