Lots of alphabet defenses, but his best win was when he won the belt originally and the best opponent he defended against successfully probably was Hernandez, who was a serial title fight loser. So I would say no. Arguello was a belt holder in the same division at the same time and beat better opposition (and would have KO’d Serrano)

By God..yes!!
True about all the alphabet defenses but he did defend his titles successfully ten times and was a two time champion. He could only fight what was put in front of him.
And he was a world traveler, defending the title everywhere, South Africa, United States, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Japan, plus a pre-title tilt in Panama...he deserves to get in.

Maybe by today's standards. But he just misses it in real thought worthy consideration. And he didn't fight Johnny"The Heat"Verderosa.

If Samuel Serrano of Puerto Rico gets in into the IBHOF, then Ernesto "Ñato" Marcel of Panama should be in, too!
