Did Laggoune retire against McCarthy?

At the beginning of the sixth round, Laggoune showed some annoyance with his left eye and turned his back, walking to his corner. Should not have Loughlin disqualified him? Not one of the first mistakes I have seen in British boxing, recently.

No, not under British rules - see http://bbbofc.com/content/rules-boxing-0 . It's not a foul (see rule 3.38). Rule 3.34 is the relevant one. Relevant part of it says:

"If at any time during a Contest the Referee decides in his complete discretion that one contestant... is not in a position to continue boxing... he shall stop the Contest and declare the opponent the winner."

So it's down to the referee's discretion.

Yeh. Basically, Bilal looked at the ref, pointed to his eye and started walking to his corner. Ref didn’t seem to have a choice and allowed time out. Looked like he didn’t know what to do in the split second.
