Dillian Whyte: Haye Conned His Way Through His Boxing Career

Dillian Whyte has recently rekindled his feud with former two-division champion David Haye, who retired from the sport in May 2018 after suffering a knockout loss to Tony Bellew in a rematch.

Haye is the manager of Derek Chisora, who went through two furious wars with Whyte.

Now Chisora is aiming a for a trilogy with Whyte. In two weeks, Whyte was scheduled to have a rematch with Alexander Povetkin. The fight was postponed when Povetkin tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Whyte, the feud with Haye goes back several years.

Whyte explains that he made attempts to fight Haye, when the London man returned to the sport in 2016.

Haye recently took a swipe at Whyte. He says Whyte was calling him out in the direct aftermath of the rematch loss to Bellew.

"I've always tried to fight David Haye, because he was the top guy at the time and obviously when you're coming up as a young fighter, you aspire to fight the guys at the top," Whyte told Sky Sports.

"I wanted to fight him to see how good I was and see how well I fare against him. I've always believed I could have beaten him. If you go back and look at my Twitter feed, I've been calling David Haye out for a long time. Long before he fought Bellew. When he fought Arnold Gjergjaj, I was trying to get him from then.

"He must have seen something that he thought he couldn't beat, or maybe he knew that I'm tough and I'm strong and I'm physical, and I was hungry. When you believe you can beat someone, you know deep down you can beat someone, it makes you dangerous and you approach the fight with a different mindset and mentality, and he knows it.

"Listen, David Haye is the biggest bully in the whole of boxing. That guy has conned his way through his boxing career, ducking and dodging, and picking fights. Saying stuff and belittling people to get fights made. There's lots of fights that he should have had that he didn't have, even as a cruiserweight."

Whyte said haye was the top guy. When was haye the top guy at HW in 2016?

I think Whyte is still punchy after getting KTFO..

Haye cleaned CW division then won a legit HW championship.

Haye has annoyed me in his career, when he came back from retirement and did these ridiculous channel 5 shows, pulling out of fights with Fury and of course, his toe excuse.

However, nobody can say he has conned his way through his career. At CW, between 2006-2008 he fought Fragomeni (21-0 at the time), beat Mormeck for the belt in Paris, blasted out Enzo in a fight lots saw as 50:50 at the time.

His heavyweight resume is not too bad either, Monte Barret, Valuev, Ruiz then an easy one in Audley before he fought Wlad.

I have to side with Whyte in this respect , Haye has punched above his weight for years and its served him quite well really given he isnt a true HW and only succesfully defended twice and one of those was Fraudley

He could have fought the likes of Povetkin or a young AJ ?????
and of course dodged fury .

He is still at it now with his promotional activity and although I find him quite annoying have to admire his persistence and ability to build things up ie Chisora who is very ordinary and well past his prime is likely to be on TV yet again soon !

Whyte is a idiot. Slates everyone but cried about it when people did the same to him after the Povetkin KO. Looks like he's now back to slating people.

Haye achieved more than Whyte ever will.

Haye would have smashed Whyte in the same way as he smashed Chisora. Whyte’s only ever faced 2 world level guys and been ktfo both times.

Exactly that, while you can say he managed his career well, you cant take away what he did.
Alternatively while Whyte has been looled after well money wise he hasn't had the same opportunities.

Good posts ! And there was nothing fake about the performance Haye turned in against Mormeck over in France. Haye showed his grit that night The demolition of Enzo Mac was a big deal at the time too.

And Whyte still has some catching up to do to match him. So maybe he needs to shut the f*ck up.

When it's Whyte doing the bashing, people change sides quite often

I agree with the others on this thread, Haye may have fiddled his way through his HW career to a large degree, but even with the disappointments he achieved far more than Whyte has to date.

Fair's fair...for all of the cocking about and getting up people's noses, Haye pulled off some good wins in his career and at his best was world class.

The stoppage of a fit and fired up Chisora was a good win too.

Lets be honest....Whyte would give his right nut to have had half the career Haye had. 2 division world champ, unified and ring magazine cruiser. Whyte is obviously very jealous....he could not do what Haye did. Haye was never a true heavyweight but won a world title and defended it which is something Whyte is very unlikely to do.

I do believe Haye was wary of Whyte at that point of their careers, and with good reason. But Haye was in a similar position on the ladder at the time — he wasn't the top guy even to his biggest fans.

Prime Haye's a completely different story, and I think it's Whyte who'd have been wary of fighting that version.

The Fury period's when his prime was lost to injury. And the funny thing with young AJ is that he felt he wasn't ready for Haye. Tons of hindsight there.

David Haye had a decent career it was only his last few fights that where abit shit but you cant con your way to a unified title ask Floyd Mayweather....errr no dont bother he never unified a division lol.

Could there be an argument that Haye had a much better result against a younger and fresher Chisora than 'heir apparent' Usyk, let alone Whyte's life and death efforts?

Whyte who has to avenge being iced by a years past his best Povetkin just to stay vaguely relevant and who twice went life and death with a years past his best Delboy has the temerity to belittle Haye's stellar career.

People have a go at Haye for his Valuev performance, but Valuev was absolutely massive in comparison. Imagine if that version of Haye had had Joseph Parker to win a world title against instead? I've never really thought about it, as Haye has been off my Christmas card list for many years now, but don't you think considering Haye was only really cautious against super heavyweights and Parker is of similar height, that theoretically the Haye that fought Valuev would have probably knocked him out?

Well he clearly did. It might be Haye's best performance ever and it's probably the most dominant win against Chisora (that or Fury II). Whyte hasnt come close to that.

For a couple of years Haye was seen as the legit #2 behind Klitschko (albeit with very few fights). Whyte has been on a good run in excellent class for a while now, to be fair, but there have always been four or five others ahead of him. And his biggest win over Parker is tainted by the early headbutt changing the whole direction of the fight. So they don't really compare as matters stand.

I’d agree with that and I’d also say that he doesn’t get enough credit for his performance against Wlad. What did people want him to do - he’s giving away 2 stone against a peak Wlad with his brilliant jab and his ability to cut the ring off and who as usual was allowed to hold and lean on his opponent anytime Haye even got a sniff of getting within range. Wlad was a top class operator at the peak of his powers and as the old saying goes a good big un will always beat a good little un. Haye did the only thing he could reasonably do, stay out of trouble (no easy task) and look for a glimmer of a chance and try to engage when that appears.

For me a peak Haye does to Whyte what he did to Chisora.
