Check out
http://www.newspaperarchives.com
for a great source for old and really old newspaper articles dating back to the 1870's and even earlier.
Its a great source, they best way to see oll the articles available on any bout, is to just type in the name of the fighter you are looking for, like John L. Sullivan,
or Jack Dempsey or even a obscure contender.
It will turn up hundreds of articles where the name is in any article, but it doesnt list them chronolocially(like the articles from the archives at the Washington Post does),so you have to go through each article summary, but its worth it.

yes, with research ,hopefully it can clear up some of the dates, locations and oppontents
that have been forgotten with time with some fighters records.
Also, their database is mostly the smaller newspapers from across the USA.
Not the larger newspaers articles frequently mentioned in sources.

yes it does contain information from a considerable number of the small local papers and enables you to get a wide cross section of opinion. sometimes you do ask if they are talking about the same event.

one of the good ones is the nevada state journal
