What other Recent boxers is there that turned there career around after losing early on????


Recent
Johnny Nelson losing his 1st 3 Pro fights going on to be British European and world Champion, was unbeaten for the last 10 years of his career retiring World Champion.

Matthew Hatton getting beat so early on by David Kirk retiring 11-75-3 and then 2 fight later by a 3-2-1, Hatton won the vacant EBU European and challenged twice for the World Title.

Ashley Theophane scripting passed Keith Jones 9-89-7 in his 7th fight then getting beat by Judex Meemea who hadn't even won a fight in 4 outings, 2 more victorys to then get beat by another Journey Man 2 more then Drawing with Daniel Thorpe who ended up 23-113-3, Theophane went on to win the British, challenged for the World.

Jim Watt lost his 6th fight defeating the same opponent in his next, winning The British, European and World Champion

Carl Thompson lost his 9th 10th and 12th going on to win The British, European and to became 2 Time World Champion and ended with that great win over David Haye!

Joe Bugner got KO'd on his Debut, he was The British Commonwealth and European Champion and became most famous for travelling to USA to challenge the main man Muhammad Ali for The World Title.


Early !900's

Len Wickwar 1928 had 342-86-43. lost his 4th fight and to think out of 342 wins the only Title he won was The Midlands Area Welter Title and that was in his 387th fight.

Terry Downes losing his 3rd fight going on to win The British, Commonwealth and World Title.

Ted Kid Lewis 191-32-14 Lost his first 2 fights to become The British, European and World Champion

Len Harvey 122-14-10 lost his 2nd pro fight. Drew for The BBBofC British Welter Title, Won The Middleweight British and Commonweath, The British Light-Heavyweight and The British Heavy Title before Dropping back down in weight to win The "BBBofC World Light Heavyweight Title Champion" in-front of A crowd of 90, 000 at White City Stadium

Dennis Andries Is another obvious one. He was 16-6 at one point I think.

Pat Barrett lost to Preston's Paul Burke (a decent fighter in his own right, Commonwealth champion), who fought out of Champs' Camp, in his third fight. Burke was having his sixth pro fight.

It was a bad decision in Peter Eubank's home city of Brighton. Barry stopped him in eight rounds a few months later in Belfast.

Richard Dunn was sparked in his pro debut by Danny McAlinden in one of those heavyweight tournaments that Jack Solomons ran at the World Sporting Club in Mayfair in an attempt to find a future heavyweight great. It was an early edition of Prizefighter.

Bugner also killed a man early in his pro career (Trinidad's Uric Regis)and many have suggested that he pulled his punches thereafter, most infamously against Muhammad Ali in their 15-rounder for the world heavyweight title in Malaysia. Bugner spent most of that fight getting to know the ropes.
Hagler lost his first fight to Philadelphia's Bobby "Boogaloo" Watts in Philadelphia in January 1976 but it is widely regarded as a robbery and he stopped Watts in a return. The only man Hagler admits losing to is Philadelphia's Willie "The Worm" Monroe in a 10-rounder in Philly in March 1976. He stopped Monroe twice in rematches.

I didn’t realise Crolla lost so early, Hamidi was on form around that time only losing to Ricky Burn by a round a very tight one with Michael Hunter John Simpson the list goes on.

Tevin Farmer was 4-3-1 from his first eight professional fights but went on to win the IBF Super Featherweight title.

Mike Weaver lost 3 out of his first 4 pro bouts-2 by knockout if I remember correctly.

Also, Eleoncio Mercedes and Francisco Quiroz were world champions but had brief careers in which they lost many times so you could essentially say they too lost early in their careers...
