Pundits talking like casuals

Casual boxing fans' uninformed views have been highlighted here in the past (I'm sure we've all said some daft stuff) but listening to some boxing pundits on the radio it seems paid 'experts' are sometimes not much better. Some of the things I've heard :
- Teofino Lopez has just become the first ever undisputed lightweight world champion.
- Evander Holyfield was a cruiserweight and then disappeared for a year and then re-appeared as a heavyweight.
- Rocky Marciano used to get knocked out of the ring and would get up four or five times in a round to win fights.
- Jack Johnson had to travel all the way to Sydney, Australia to finally get a fight against world heavyweight champion Jim Jeffries.
It might be a nitpicking post but attention to detail is important if you are being paid for your expertise and it doesn't make for good listening. I can't help but wince. Anyway, anyone else heard any other gems?

The standard of punditry across all sports is in free fall and boxing is no exception. It’s only a small thing but Carl Froch constantly referring to Errol Spence as Spencer during the build up to the Brook fight as well as throughout the fight was really poor.
The guy’s a legitimate world title contender, at least afford him the respect of getting his name right. And could nobody at Sky have put him right just once ?

Carl always used to go on about how he wasn't a fan of boxing and rarely watched it, so there's little wonder he knows sweet fornicate all. Great fighter though.

True enough but I know fornicate all about netball yet if I was being paid to commentate on it the very least I could do is get the names right. He’s an articulate, intelligent chap - no excuses for it
Loved him as a fighter but I’m not the biggest fan of his tv work

Johnny Nelson 'Tony Bellew is technically better than Usyk''
Spencer Fearon ''Golovkin is just a puncher''
Alex Arthur saying Conor Benns performance at the weekend was ''world class''

Gets right on my tits and there’s no excuse for it, yes I’ve seen some daft stuff on here but I put that down mainly to younger fans getting a bit carried away so just let it slide, I’ve also seen plenty of online boxing sites asking for predictions on the “fight” between Tyson and Jones when it’s been stated clearly from day one that it’s an exhibition, I recently saw AJ on Graham Norton show saying he wanted to unify all 5 belts, in the digital age all this misinformation becomes fact to the uneducated and the fact that most of the misinformation comes from what should be credible boxing sources is really frustrating.

What about non-Sky shows? People always bring up the Sky team on here when talking about commentating.

Maybe because they are the worst?

Sure, I‘m just wondering about other teams. I haven’t listened to commentary for ages.

Wow, they're actually worse than casuals.

They are laughably clueless compared to BT. Woodhall is very very sound in almost all he's ever said! Davison has a very good boxing eye.

I thought Woodhall was poor at first, really wooden, prob didnt help being sat next to the awful Jim Neilly.
However he has developed enormously, obv he has always had a lot of knowledge but now can communicate it really well.
He is one of the best out there

I see Arthur and Nelson as articulate, knowledgable pundits.
I just dont believe that those are their real opinions.

I know what you mean, Coco. Tbf, I was listening to my missus working from home and she's very good at what she does but I know she doesn't buy into most of what she's saying. Suppose there are people up and down the land just toeing the line.

DAZN recently said Buitrago has lost on all 6 of his world title fights, which is wrong (he's lost in 5 and drawn in 1)
Showtime kept saying Casimero vs Micah was Casimero's US debut, it wasn't
Some were originally saying Inoue vs Moloney was Inoue's US debut... It wasn't, and they seemed to realise when they were called out on it
So, yeah, not just a Sky TV issue
Also can we have Steve Holdsworth back on TV please! The guy was golden with his comments

I like Alex, but that is nonsense.
I remember watching the Dunn vs Brophy fight on YouTube, the commentators claimed they were both world class fighters.
Dunn finished that fight being stopped by a man a 10% KO ratio and Brophy got KOd in a round by Fielding in his next fight.

Yes Usyk has been quite fortunate to get by using those crude haymakers that he hurls at everyone.

In one of the Wilder fights while hyping a unification the US broadcaster had a stat on screen saying there hasn't been an undisputed heavyweight champion since Mike Tyson.
Actually there's been Douglas, Holyfield, Bowe and Lewis!

I suppose there's a counter argument to that in that the WBO at some point was recognised by most as one of the big belts. Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis never held that belt and Bowe didn't have it at the same time as he had the others. It didn't exist until 1989 so Tyson was technically the last undisputed champ in the eyes of those who recognise the WBO as legit

Only if you retroactively elevate the WBO to major belt status, which is obviously absurd. It was the second-tier heavyweight belt throughout the 1990s, as a whole mountain of contemporaneous media evidences.

Agreed but I suspect that is how they arrived at the conclusion Mike is the last undisputed heavyweight champion.
