When I was promoting there was a real gentleman journalist called Freddy Burcombe who was always a pleasure to deal with. Does anyone know anything about him or have any photos of him, I'd like to make a page about him in the wiki.

Cor that's a blast from the past, Fred Burcombe !

I think I used to like reading his tabloid write ups. Was he Daily Mail or The Sun ?

Yes, that sounds about right. I can vaguely remember his photo, 70's style glasses.

I'm glad I was involved with the last of old school boxing writers in the early 90's when you had to know your job, travel the gyms and do the leg work. Fred was great at all that. He was always pleasant and respectful to everyone and he was highly respected in return. Unfortunately, just like pro boxing and influencer boxing,we have a split tier of boxing writers nowadays. The old school that are left that know the game and how to play it,and the ones that are just playing at it trying to make a name for themselves on YouTube. To be fair some promoters and boxers do not make it easy because they cannot take constructive criticism. And when that happens you can bet your life you will not be welcome at their next boxing show

Sad truth. The YouTube pseudo-journo's are rarely journalists at all.The few exceptions to this are Danny Flexen at Seconds Out, and young Joe Leigh who has at least studied journalism and done bits elsewhere. Boxing Kind Media do ask some awkward questions though. I quite like Aky too at BBTV. That's not many out of dozens.
