Conor is 24 years old and has had 17 bouts. Nigel was 24 years old and won the Commonwealth title in his 17th bout. Who was the better fighter after 17 bouts ?

Regardless of their prospective records at the same age they aren't really worthy of comparison in my opinion.

Very possible connors record would be very different if it wasn't for his surname. That's not dissing the lad, i like him and he's improved a lot.

Nigel, by far.

I see what he means by his son being a more developed fighter at the same age - he's obviously more patient and well-schooled and is learning hard to avoid making the same technical mistakes - but there's just no comparison in terms of raw physicality, instincts, speed, power, the stuff you can't teach. Nigel looked extremely gifted from very early on.

That said, I do think Conor has improved a great deal, and I really believe his career is going to be great to follow. At one time I would have had him topping out at Area level, now he's now beaten some decent fringe European-level operators comfortably. So I think there's potential for a European title, maybe even a paper world title - all great achievements. However, I don't see him being true world class unless he develops some serious technical skills (or drops down a weight - unlikely!)

Nigel, he was like a middleweight Tyson before Watson. The highlight of Midweek Sports Special on a Wednesday.

I agree and feel that Nigel is overhyping his son.

Has to be Nigel. His punch power was phenomenal with either hand.

Have to mention his 18th fight in that sensational brawl with Anthony Logan for the Commonwealth title. Nigel was all over the place then pulled out a howitzer of a left hand to flatten Logan :box:

Oh yeah :OhYes:

Nigel looked booked for a stoppage loss, but managed to find a desperate left hand bomb from somewhere  Absolute mayhem!

So much natural power. Never saw a guy stumbling over - out on his feet seemingly - pull something out like that. His natural punching leverages were absurd.

Great finish but what do you make of Larry O'Connell's 10-count?

I cant remember....was it a bit on the quick side?

Logan got himself upright somehow, but would surely have been stopped at that point as he was very shaken.

Conor is rubbish and a kayo waiting to happen. Nigel looked like he could do things on the world stage.

Nigel's punch power was world class from the get go, but he had to pack himself off to the States and hook up with Vic Andretti to become the rounded fighter he ended up being before conquering the likes of Doug DeWitt and Iran Barkely.

Still exciting now to think about !

Conor seems to be taking a more professional approach with training, nutrition etc if you believe everything Nigel says. Conor had hardly any amateur experience either so I think he will improve but he isn't a natural like his dad and he doesn't have the same punch either. I can't see Conor achieving anything like his dad did.
