This is forbidden according to BBBC rules and they are/were relatively strict about it prior to covid. But without the crowds we can hear it very clearly and there are no warnings aimed at the corner/trainers from the referees.

I can hear Dave Coldwells voice every round......all the round.

I have never heard a coach who doesn't coach in between rounds

I’d question the coach if he wasn’t

Probably settles the coach's nerves as much as anything. I always listened intently between rounds but never (knowingly) during rounds. Maybe it went in subconsciously, who knows?

I could never hear anything during a fight when I was a real novice. In my later fights i was always listening to my coach during the fight (his voice was ingrained in me)

We always shout instructions during rounds, obviously not too much information or instructions to bamboozle your fighter, sometimes a inspector from the Board may come over and say keep it down but 9/10 they don’t, every coach does it and if a coach don’t it’s pretty worrying IMO

Makes sense. Maybe I wasn't relaxed enough.

why the hell is it prohibited ?

During the old dinner shows it was silence from the corners and the people watching.

I can remember from years ago American corners being told to be quiet , as they weren't used to not shouting out.

Some voices you can hear easier than others, Coldwell is quiet shrill.

You are not allowed to be distracting... so like many things it's at the refs discretion

It never used to be allowed in the ams. Not sure in the pros.

I know that Dom Ingle was reported to the board once by Shaun Messers for coaching during the round, Dom had to report to the board in person, I wrote a letter in his defence as i was ringside for the fight doing a bit of jotting.

In reference to the am game, your not allowed to coach during a skills bout. Which I think is madness as they are the ones who should need it the most.

The refs are very good in skills bouts. Nobody gets hurt, especially when it’s clear that there is a big difference in ability.

Yeah I agree with you but I’ve also been warned by the ref to keep quiet for giving advice to my boxer during a skills, but that’s not his fault that’s the rules

Yes, this is the rules. You are not allowed to distract and especially the opponent.

Playing devils avacado here, Yarde had no amateur experience and while he has been matched carefully, he has reached an excellent standard.
Is this just be luck? Massive natural talent? Or did his trainer have something to do with it?

He did have a few amateur fights, didn't he box in the Harringay Cup?


Clearly Tunde has done something for Yarde. I think several posters just think he's a lot better off elsewhere.

It’s a ridiculous rule in itself AND everyone breaks it. How can they not ?
No other sport does it.

Tunde is probably very good at many aspects of coaching, but complete carp at others.

Bang on. 12 amateur bouts, gone to a world title shot. No-one said Rocky Fielding should drop his trainer after being less competitive against Canelo than Yarde was against Kovalev.

I think there's a lot of jealousy involved, but thats not to say its entirely unjustified. Boxing is a zero-sum game in a lot of ways - you win, they lose. You get the title shot - the other guy doesn't. And boxing is a clique-y place at the best of times.
