mmmm..... Interesting, part of me is thinking this is just the tonic we need to sort out the heavyweight mess. Another part of me is thinking that Lewis is just like most boxers, we ALL seemed to believe that retirement would be forever because Lewis was "more intelligent and sensible" than the others who keep coming back, only rumours of course but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I dont really want Lewis to come back but a part of me wants him to come back and put vitali in his place, but he could end up like most heavyweight champions who stay too long in boxing

How would Lummox coming back clear up he heavyweight division? Even if he unified the title again in a couple of years or so and then retired again, we would still be back to the situation that we're in now. the title would again become fragmented. fighters hardly worth of the name would be holding the fractuous versions of the world title with little real talent coming through.

so the "heavyweight mess" would continue to be a bigger "heavyweight mess". A 40 yo ex champ who came out of a couple of years soft living, inactive nretirement and cleaned up the lowly pretenders to the title. Then retired again and left us in exactly the same situation as the one we're in now. Only this time he will have exposed how bad the current state of the heavyweight division really is.

Stay retired for good Lewis. It's better for you, better for the sport, and could end up being better for Klitschko.

The BBC are trying to keep quiet. Which probably makes it a certainty, knowing the BBC.

I disagree mate. I can't see how a once outstanding Champion coming back in his early forties can help revive todays Heavyweight mess. If Lennox Lewis comes back and loses, nothing really changes, if Lennox wins he will possible just retire again and the divison will be back where it started, minus Vitali.

Some of the big Vitali fans over on ESB are staying stuff like "Vitali would have gone on to beat Lewis etc" and making these wild assumptions that he is an all time great in the making.

I would just like Lennox to win just show that it proves how poor this lot really is, Lewis' standing is secure and he would probably start off the underdog - it would be nice for him to shut up the Klitschsko fans, even if he loses most of the fans (apart from the Klitschko lovers) will still believe a prime Lewis would have dominated a prime Klitschsko.

I agree that a prime Lennox Lewis beats todays Vitali Klitschsko.

Terrible decision for the future of the Heavyweight division, so what if Lewis returns and beats Vitali? What happens then, he carries on or retires again? Either way he cannot go on forever so the Heavyweight scene will be left back at square one at some point in the near future. Vitali may not be everyones cup of tea but at least with him winning consistently there is a some form of continuity within the ranks. A Lewis return would not help the Heavyweight scene at all IMO.

I sincerely doubt that lewis can win if he comes back. He looked like dogshit last time out, his timing was gone, his balance was terrible, it wasn't just that he was out of shape, he was rusty and his reflexes aren't what they were.

in his prime, big len would have knocked the fornicate out of Vitali, but he will be being helped back to his own corner if he fights him now.

It looks like there is substance to the rumours, John Rawling reported in the guardian this morning on the same thing, apparently Lewis has been in touch with his training camp already.

Of course, there is always a chance that Lewis is 'doing a hamed' and
likes hearing the sound of his own name being mentioned in the same sentence as the words heavyweight champion.

I think this is a very ill advised decision, I'd love to see what Emmanuel Steward has to say about all this.
