Wow ! Great match. Cooney's height and power prevail over the much shorter Toney's great skill. Cooney by decision.

Toney was tricky even to HWs, but he never wins a really big and strong HW.

Cooney by 1st round kayo. Any good heavy would show Toney who the boss is.

I like the great James "Lights Out" Toney a lot. He is one of my favorite boxers, but I can't see him beating a prime Gerry Cooney. Cooney would beat him by knockout. He would be too big.

Toney by late stoppage.

James Toney is an all around superior boxer. However he is not the all around superior heavyweight. Cooney to big and strong puts James Lights Out early in the fight within 5 rounds.

Cooney could win, by decision. He wouldn't floor toney, much less blast him out. Gerry is so overrated.

Toney would win a decision I think. Cooney would probably do well early, but Toney is too skilled and too tough ultimately.

At the HW Toney unquestionably won only shot Holyfield and John "The hugging crap" Ruiz.

Toney lost to Peter, both times legitimately, and deserved losses against Rahman, Oquendo.

That's his all resume against more or less relevant HWs.

If clumsy Peter was able to outfight Toney, Cooney would have more opportunities to do that, as he was bigger, sharper and more hard-hitting.

Ruiz was better than cooney.

Ruiz was a joke. He got lucky.
