Lewis changes his tune

It appears Lewis has thought better of his rash comments. Despite telling the Mirror he was coming back, he's now told fightnews that he isn't. I suspect he was goaded in the heat of the moment into saying he was coming back, and now he's talked to his mum and his missus, and they've given him a bollocking.....

Or he never said it in the first place or his words were twisted by the tabloids. Much more likely I think.

Possible I suppose. Hard to twist it to that extent though, I mean saying you spoke to Lewis and he said he was coming back in November is pretty bold.

Maybe the Mirror just jumped the gun on this one, but when it comes to football, they do it far too often and get their facts wrong (as do most tabloids).
On the other hand it probably helped to shift a few more papers when there's not muchelse going on.

Lewis also has property in the UK and USA as well, and you can bet your arse he has a fat yard in, well, yard.
It's not like he's going to be living in some shack, plus I think he has bought places for his mother and brother.
I wonder what he has earned in his career, could probably work it out from reading his book, but I know it's not anything like Tyson's earnings.

They were direct quotes, if it was all complete BS they'd take the "A source close to Lennox told us..." approach. Notice in his later statement he never denied making those statements to the Mirror. IMO he will come back for a Vitali fight, providing VK gets by Rahman that is. The later denial statement (IMO) is a smokescreen, maybe he was supposed to keep everything quiet and now he's covering up for blabbing to the tabloids. I guess theres only one guy anyway who really knows..

I suspect you may be right, perhaps Lewis just couldn't help himself bluring it out, or as I said earlier, he wants to make it clear he wants a fornicating whopping purse
Nobody else was ever bandying about the kind of money Lewis is talking about, it seems he plucked that figure out of the ether, or rather decided that's the amount which excites him. Perhaps it is now up to Klitchsko's people to try and get enough to get Lewis back, after all, Vitali needs this fight a hell of a lot more than Lewis. Lewis can just stay retired, knowing that Vitali will find it virtually impossible to outdo Lewis because there simply isn't the competition available out there. Perhaps he's threatening to pull out of the fight.

I seem to remember hearing figures over $100-$120 million from fights alone. Then you've got endorsements, tv, films etc etc. Ofcourse you have to take away taxes etc and the figures may have been hyped up a bit, but theres no doubt he's done extremely well.
Also, LL is not the type to blow the lot like Tyson or so many others boxers and unless he has a secret gambling or Faberge Egg addiction, I really doubt that he needs the money.
But if there really was £20m plus on offer, who knows.

Blimey people have some high standards, I've never noticed him being that bad, though I don't read the mirror too often.
One thing that people don't realise with newspaper journalists is that they write to extremely tight deadlines, so don't have the time for finessing their pieces in the way that non-deadline journalists do.

I like Holt on the TV, he's the only one that I really listen to on that Jimmy Hill sunday show on Sky.

as was said earlier, if it had said, 'A source close to the Lewis camp' rather than direct quotes, I would be inclined to think that, however, although I can't be sure, i am inclined to think that Lewis is capable of saying that. Who knows though.

the quote you refer to was "I need the money just like everyone else and it's just too good to be turned down."
When its printed in full like that it sounds quite different to just "I need the money".
Again, notice LL didn't Deny making the quotes, he just 're-iterated' he won't be returning to the ring. Same thing Tito Trinidad told us for the past 2 years.

Lewis aint backed out of nothing. The newspapers put some jibber jabber untrue story in, and he's just denied it.
