Just seen a little clip of him on the pads with his old fella.
Anyone know anything about his boxing? Is he an amateur or preparing to turn pro?

He was a fvcking skilled guy, very quick and slick. I rewatched the Karmazin fight at the start of lockdown, I’d forgotten how aggressive he was to start that fight. I was like, ‘this is Spinks I’m watching? I must have been hammered when I first saw this’ Cory Spinks, fkin smacking Karmazin up a bit. He returned to form a bit in the later rounds but he mashed Karmazins nose up good in those early rounds.

A good question is; how much of a fighter’s style is in the genes and how much is learned? You always see at least some similarities within families but can that all be explained by being taught by them?
Some traits like chin seem to be hereditary, Eubanks and Chavezs for example. Are there any really fast boxers with slow-arse kids?

Not just taught but looking to emulate, I’d imagine.

I never actually saw that fight, never bothered with Taylor at all. I can imagine Cory goving him fits though. He had nimble feet, Taylor’s feet were baaaaad

The main difference between Eubank SR and JR isnt so much ability but activity. In their title years SR ( Benn 1 onwards ) had 25 fights in 8 yrs, JR ( Billy Joe onwards) has had 12 fights in 6 years. SR fighting every 4 months, JR twice a year.

I think Joe Jr has had a few amateur fights and has been in and around the Gavin Rees gym for a while but I can’t see him going pro.
He’s something like 26-27 now so time isn’t on his side either now.

I don’t think Snr was that good. Incredibly tough, resilient with a great chin but he had a low work rate, limited power at Super Middleweight and he benefited from clever matchmaking and kind judges. Believe it or not, I was a big fan but looking back he was well beaten by Steve Collins twice and nowhere near the level of Calzaghe or Froch .

he was able to spring counterpunching traps Junior couldn't understand if you spent half an hour going through them on tape with him. IMO
