Hunter to 1. Laughery to 2. :yay:

Sorry for my stupid joke, but the no change post was too predictable. I even forgot, that this Thrilla in Galveston, the Texas Boxing Massacre should have been held this weekend.

I voted Hunter to #6 just because I think he should be above of Ruiz and Whyte, but it's quite obvious that the rest of the posters will vote for no change, I can even count your joke as a legit vote and there is no way it's gonna change something :D

No change. I think I had Hunter at 8 in my original submission and this doesn't change that.

Hunter to 7, can't justify putting him above Whyte just yet, but his activity alone should put him above Ruiz.
Which is sad when you think about it, considering Ruiz was unified champ a little over a year ago.

Anyone voting to move him up is clearly just doing so because they thought he was undercooked on the original rankings. This win means nothing, almost less than nothing, if I were to do anything I’d move him down for an average performance.

But, no change.

Hunter to 11.

Not having a top 10 opponent fighting someone who is now ranked at 300 on boxrec.

If he had fought this guy in October to stay busy when Covid was making fights difficult that's one thing.

But not mid December.

In summary, Laughery (6'0), gets knocked down round 1. Then Hunter starts swinging for the fences for the rounds 2 and 3. Including throwing a wild back hand!
Then in the 4th hunter hits the guy with what looks like two consecutive borderline low blows. The referee acknowledges. But doesn't give Laugherty any time. Laughterty looks exhausted, or still trying to walk off a possible low blow. Hunter pounces, unloads on Laughery. Laughery takes a knee. Hunter measures a shot and hits him while he is down. The referee starts counting, Laughery stays on his knee.

Yeah... Hunter to 11.

I am at least familiar with the names of probably five hundred or more current, inactive or recently retired heavyweights but I have never heard the name Shawn Laughery until today. The idea that beating him could affect Hunter Junior's ranking is by my reasoning, shown laughable.

i don't see how fighting someone like that is any worse than not fighting at all....would you have also moved him down if he'd just sat on his couch eating doritos?

When Ruiz lost to Parker, he was out for at least 15 months..

Which is why I think you're wrong. Until Saturday Joshua hadn't fought for a year. I think in the covid climate, we should be much more lenient toward inactivity (no Trevor Bryan, Mahmood Charr, I don't mean serial offenders like you)

As for Dillian Whyte, I wouldn't penalize him too much for the Povetkin loss. He got outmaneuvered by an extremely smart and wily old fox in a fight he was on his way to winning emphatically. If you regularly take on the calibre of opponent that Dillian habitually does, then sooner or later you are going to take a loss, it's no big deal. Back in the day when it was normal to face stiff opposition, fighters took losses and wasn't regarded as deeply meaningful. When you look at Whyte's resumΓ© and the kind of money he's been making, he's been more of a champion than several fighters who have been belt-holders since 2000.

Incidentally that is as good a heavyweight top 15 as I can recall seeing. I guess the advantage the forum has over the regular boxrec rankings is we are not constricted by a set of rules or formulae. My respects to all the contributors :TU:

People who are inactive due to covid but still are trying to get fights deserve leniency, for sure.

I just don't see Ruiz as overly keen to get back in the ring. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he just cans the whole boxing malarkey off like Maidana did.
Fair play to him if he does, by the way, boy done good.

Well I agree with you, after all I gather we remove fighters who are inactive for over 18 months.

Wasn't this the first of three opponents Hunter will fight under contract from the same stable?

How long do you keep a guy in the world top 10 whose best win was outside the top 30 when he can't even be arsed to fight guys in the top 30 of his own nation?

p.s. I would have voted no change, but as he is getting voted up the rankings after that performance...

@keirw

I think Senor Ruiz has always struggled to make the necessary sacrifices. A gym-rat he most definitely ain't.

How much worse is it now he has an entire wardrobe full of slik pajamas? I was going to say "cut the man some slack' but I expect he'd prefer a burrito ... better make that a burro :D

Board of unbiased experts than any kind of algorithm :TU: The BoxRec's one used to be decent, they have changed something though and now they have Deontay Wilder as #5 P4P

I've said ''unbiased experts'' though of course we all have our favourite fighters, but we are surely less biased than ESPN or The Ring experts, and I think we can call ourselves experts, if someone somehow came to this forum and stayed here, it most likely means that he is more interested in boxing than >99,9% of world population and therefore should know something about this sport, though sometimes I feel like a lot of posters on here, despite their activity on the forum, do not watch any fights, except of those really big ones)
