Do you think Raymond Ford has potential?

He looked good on the Canelo card but was getting caught with stuff he shouldn't. If he gets better defensively I think he could do pretty good at featherweight.

I doubt he stays at feather. At 21 he's going to grow out of that division soon. He was 128 5 lbs for the fight last week.

I think Ray Ford will eventually be a legit top 10 contender & quite possibly a future world champ. Sure Ford took some shots from Lopez & may have even lost a round or 2 but Lopez was a huge step up for the ex-amateur star. Lopez is a legit gatekeeper for young prospects & 6 of his 8 losses were against guys with NO losses. (Commentators mentioned Lopez' 70-3 amateur record)

Ford has great hand-speed and excellent boxing skills, though he needs to tighten up his defense a bit.

nothing really stands out for me with him, also looks like he dont like being hit which aint a bad thing , which i mean he instinctively throws a wild shot . he is young bound to get better , plus side he is an offence fighter, lets both hands go ,he moves around the ring well , i would question his power though,i say judge him after 10 fights

Yeah it looks like 130 will be his weight if he can’t start consistently shedding the poundage.

I thought Ford looked terrible against Manriquez but looked good against Lopez. Tells me that he’s working in the gym and improving.

He was very inaccurate throughout the Manriquez fight. That problem seemed a little better against Lopez. I also question the power. Especially if he takes a move to 130.

He has great had speed as has been said. Most impressive quality to me is the right hook. You don’t often see a really good right hook in young left handers, but his is very crisp and hurts guys when it catches them. Oddly he doesn’t seem to have the same crispness and pop in his left cross.

For a guy who’s clearly modeling himself after Mayweather he needs to improve the defense. He was hit flush with some shots when backed against the ropes. Can’t be doing that.

If he comes into his strength a little bit more and tightens up the D I think he’s got potential to be a world title challenger and maybe even a champ.

Lopez is a quality journeyman, but I’m not sure he’s earned the label gatekeeper. https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/634959

Stephon Young beat him at Bantamweight en route to losses against Gaballo and Donaire. Plania beat him en route to upsetting Joshua Greer, Jr. Other than that we’ve seen little out of the undefeated prospects who took him down. Some have even gone on to lose to journeymen.

The fact that Ford stopped him at such a high weight is not super impressive in context. But I’ll give Ford due credit for looking good doing it and making Lopez quit.

ray had a draw tonight against aaron perez. perez was 10-0 but vs awful opposition. he was a good amateur though.

lets face it, just because a guy is young, unbeaten, and american doesnt mean they are gonna be a top pro. but at 21, a draw vs a decent opponent shouldnt be much of a setback for ford.
