Australia’s biggest draw card, WBO#2 light middleweight Tim Tszyu(17-0,13KO’s) will have to put his hopes of getting a WBO world title opportunity in early 2021 on hold with the announcement WBO champion Patrick Teixeira (31-1,22KO’s) is scheduled to defend against WBO mandatory contender Brian Castano (16-0-1,12KO’s) on February 13 at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio California on a Golden Boy promotion streamed on DAZN.

The Tszyu camp were told after he scored sensational KO victory over IBF#15 Bowen Morgan on December 16 with 12,000 fans in attendance at the BankWest Stadium in Sydney, that the WBO championship bout between champion Patrick Teixeira and WBO#1 Brian Castano bout was not likely to go ahead and that Brazilian would be stripped of the title and the Australian would challenge Brian Castano for the vacant crown with the winner to defend the championship against Teixeira.

Now it has become official the Teixeira v Castano bout has been matched by Golden Boy Promotions Tszyu should receive a world title opportunity against the winner later in 2021.

Brian Castano has excellent amateur background with victory over current IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence in 2011 with a amateur record of 181-5. Castano also defeated in 2013 Serghy Derevyanchenko who gave Genady Golovkin a torrid twelve round bout. As a professional Castano held the WBA crown in 2016 with victory over Emanuel de Jesus and defending against Michel Soro, Cedric Vitu, before being held to a twelve round draw in 2018 against highly regarded Erislandy Lara.

Patrick Teixeira captured the WBO championship outscoring Carlos Adames in 2019 but against Curtis Stevens was stopped in two rounds in 2016.

Castano should go into the fight a solid favourite to capture the WBO championship from Patrick Teixeira but whoever the victor is, he should be offered a substantial purse to defend against Tszyu “Down Under”in a matchup that should attract a live gate in excess of 20,000fans at the BankWest Stadium in Sydney.

Tim Tszyu would defeat Teixeira but would find Castano a dificult fight. I am confident Castano will defeat Teixeira on February 13 at Fantasy Springs casino in Indio California and Tszyu will have to challenge him. Castano is unbeaten and a former WBA champion. Erisandy Lara who gave Canelo a tough fight boxed a split draw with Castano. I sent my mate Charkey Ramon vids on Castano. He thinks Tszyu will defeat Castano but in my opinion it’s not a done deal

ya i agree, beats tex but castano is a tougher one

Just seen the replay fight of Teixira vs Castano, In my option Tszyu has no chance against Castano. Even Teixeira is a warrior and i doubt he beats him if so would have top be a hometown decision.
I think Tim should go after Lara, his old but still a champ and has a heart beat.

Lara and Castano drew, they are similar levels but very different styles

Tim would beat Tex, though now unlikely to go after him with no title

Castano won WBO title with one sided victory over Teixeira. Castano will be dificult opponent for Tim Tszyu but we will be cheering him on to win the world crown

Doubt Tszyu 's camp would want Castano even if offered , Think they will chase a few easy ppv fights and build his bank balance before he gets shown up

THIS Know a few fellas who think he's already a future hall of famer

Castono has had almost 200 amateur fights beating the likes of Errol Spence and Sergiy Derevyamchenko and winning the World light middle weight title twice. This is why i just cant see Tim Tszyu having a chance of winning let alone staying for 12 rounds. I'm not knocking the kid as he does show a lot of talent sort of like A.Mundine did with minimal amateur backgrounds. He could be a champion but not against the current crop of belt holders.

i think he would last, but yes, castano would beat him

my guess for tim's title route now:


-castano and charlo fight for the all the titles , the winner (prob charlo) vacates and moves to mw, then tim fights for a vacant belt vs less challenging opponent

Castano is a truly world-class talent, he will humiliate Tim.

Looks like Castano can fight pretty well and would be a big ask for Tim. Anything can happen in this game but I would think Castano too good. Let’s hope Tim can keep improving and get the nod.
