George Barnes was interviewed about his fight with Freddie Dawson and he said. One of the judges gave me the fight by one point. He was a good friend of mine. Ron Walden - he was head of the police. Cripes, 5k quid sounds like some serious coin for back then, and considering Dawson had taken care of business with every Australian opponent up until that point, with the exception of Bernie Hall, thats a significant sum to lay down.

Ah well, it sad to hear that.

Dawson himself was no stranger to being stitched up. Despite what the official results say, he apparently had the number on Ike Williams over their series of fights. But with Ike being managed by the mob, he got the results and thus opportunities that Dawson didnt.
