Amir Khan calls out Kell Brook for fight in 2021, vows to ‘put him in his place’ and ‘shut him up for good’
Amir Khan has declared that he wants to finally fight Kell Brook this year.
The long-time British rivals have been linked with one another for almost a decade now.
Now, both men have been stopped multiple times by other opponents and appear to be nearing the ends of their careers.
“No, no, the gloves are still on,” Khan told the Khaleej Times when asked if he was contemplating retirement.
“I’m thinking of fighting probably next year sometime.
“This year was a bit of a bad year for everybody and boxing was off.
“They wanted to fight behind closed doors. I just didn’t really feel like I’d be able to motivate myself, but hopefully, if it opens up next year, we can make something happen.
“I wanna fight again around March or April and there are so many names out there, there are so many deals on the table, in the Middle East as well. So, let’s see how that plays out.”
When asked who he wanted to face, he replied:
“I think someone like Kell Brook, who has always been running his mouth, I think put him in his place now.
“I think it is about time now to put him in his place and shut him up for good.”
At the start of last year, Brook made a similar comment.
When asked to name his dream fight for 2020, Brook told talkSPORT.com with no hesitation:
“Khan.
“Since I were 18 years old, it weren’t like I targeted him, but our names were [linked] when I was with allegedly and he was with allegedly.
“It’s been talked about even since then. It’s gone on too long, but if it were done, if it were made and we were all at a press conference, I know that everybody would get excited again.”

Mind you, he's saying all this whilst sitting in Dubai..
Trying to keep his name a good on to the people of Dubai.
Brook is yet to announce if he's retired or what he is doing. Has he spoken since his defeat.

It’s a fight I’d still quite like to see even if both are well past their best.
It’s not big enough now for a PPV headliner and they will both want far too much for it to be a Saturday night fight night.
Only way this happens is either in Dubai or Saudi with a big site fee. I’d be very surprised if it does happen though.

Yes - in light of the recent problems with his new wedding building etc.
Although both guys are a couple years past their best - I think it would still make for a good fight.

I would say there will probably be lots more action if it happened now as both could go over from a jab.

Regardless of where they are in their careers...both men have progressively dipped in form over the last 3-4 years. This is still a 50/50 fight and thats what makes it still attractive.

It still has lots of appeal for reasons outlined by above posters. However, please dont make this a main event ppv and try to hype the fight as two elite fighters. Hype it ala Selby vs Burns a year or so back

I think it’s a tough sell for it to be a PPV headliner, at least without a really strong undercard. Neither have done big PPV sales in the past (outside of Brook vs Golovkin) and have nowhere to go on to really afterwards.
None of my casual mates would care about it now - a couple of years ago they would but as one of them said when I last spoke to them about Khan he said ‘I thought he retired a couple of years back’.
Also neither have the backing of a TV network that would want to take a risk on it. Would Eddie or Frank want to give up a PPV slot to this? I can’t see it.

Maybe the only big money fight left for these two. For that reason it probably happens.

I think Eddie would.
I’ll believe it when I see it. All of this assumes that Khan and Brook are able to do a deal - Kell may be too stubborn for it and Khan’s always had a big appreciation for himself so I still can’t see it happening.

I think Kell needs the money more, saying that Khan has been losing money, end of the day both fighters needing the money is the perfect storm!

Not sure why Kell needs money.
He received $1.8m 6 weeks or so ago (without needing to give as much to management, trainer or promoter as he would normally) and doesn’t strike me as someone who’s as reckless with money as Amir seems to be.

Kell doesn’t need money at all. He’s made millions and still knocks about with his old mates. He’ll do a couple of hundred quid tops on a night out. He’s far from a big spender.

BT SPORT for this one I reckon. As money driven as Hearn is, I don't see him working with Kell or Kell's dad again.
