Canelo Alvarez vacates WBA Middleweight Belt
“He is 168 now, it is his prime weight,” Eddy Reynoso, Alvarez’s head trainer and manager confirmed to BS.com on Friday. “It is where he feels strongest and we are not giving away anything in weight anymore at middleweight.”
Japan's Ryota Murata is the only recognized WBA middleweight champion.
“This is his weight,” confirms Reynoso. “Anyone who wants to fight Canelo will have to meet us (at super middleweight). He’s not giving away anymore of his prime.”

WBA should mandate Murata vs. Eubank Jr.
But we know it’ll probably be Murata vs. Martinez..

Re: Canelo Alvarez vacates WBA Middleweight Belt
WBA has only one belt in a division???
They won't tolerate that nonsense for long.
Murata will be elevated to super status.
Somebody will wake up and find out they are the regular champ.
Once those two things have been completed an interim champ will show up somewhere.

Murata is reg champ, and Eubank is interim champ. Interesting to see if those 2 fight for super champ, or if the top 2 ranked without a belt guys fight for super champ... Seems obvious that those 2 would fight for super champ but that would leave WBA with 1 champion, and that dosent sound like them...

A little over a half hour after saying that an interim wba title holder was discovered.
Does Eubank know he has this legendary belt?
Gonna be a huge target on his back.
Being a WBA interim champion is the life long dream of all prize fighters.

This, after years of rehydrating up to and beyond 180!
This after years of some of his fans claiming he was a small MW.
I guess the drugs did work after all!
The A side call all the shots in this so-called sport. Everyone (NSAC, WBC WBA etc, VADA, WADA, Ring Magazine, all the networks etc) must obey the mighty Clenelo.
All future opponents, especially GGG.
It's only fair and proper isn't it?

Re: Canelo Alvarez vacates WBA Middleweight Belt
This is an interesting development, because it was only a few weeks ago that it looked likely that Canelo would face GGG again during Cinco de Mayo 2021.
Unfortunately, Eddie Hearn recently claimed that Gennadiy Golovkin might face Jaime Munguia next, immediately followed by a title unification bout against Demetrius Andrade.
And with the Matchroom boss also trying to secure the rights to promote Canelo’s bouts against Avni Yildirim, followed by Billy Joe Saunders, coupled with the Mexican making a permanent move to 168lbs, then it currently seems likely we’ll never get to see the GGG rematch.
In theory, based on Team GGG’s long-term boasts about being capable of beating the very best at 175lbs, him also being fairly large for his weight class, coupled with the fact the Kazakh competed at 165lbs as an amateur, then there’s really nothing preventing him from moving up to super-middleweight.
However, if Matchroom’s plan comes to fruition, with GGG facing Munguia and Andrade, then would a forty-year-old version of Golovkin be willing to make the jump to confront the prime strongest iteration of Canelo at 168lbs?
I personally doubt it, unless he’s merely cashing out, because the lure of one final Canelo mega payday could be far too tempting to resist.
Here's a novel idea though, instead of waiting for Canelo to make the offer, GGG Promotions could offer to promote the Canelo rematch and offer him a bigger payday than the Mexican could achieve from facing Yildirim and Saunders.
I don't think this will happen, but GGG is self-promoted and in complete control over his own destiny, and so there's nothing stopping him from negotiating terms with Canelo's handlers.

Ryota Murata vs. Chris Eubank Jr. for the vacant WBA super world middleweight strap, with the winner to engage in a title unification bout against the WBC champion, Jermall Charlo?
And hopefully, the winner of that three-man tournament faces the victor of the GGG-Andrade bout, because let's face it, the Golovkin-Munguia fight is a complete mismatch!
We could finally have a successor to Jermain Taylor's 2005 undisputed middleweight title reign!

WBA could put that belt at stake in GGG vs Munguia fight! It would be very nice!

It would be very corrupt of the WBA to allow GGG (unranked) and Munguia (6th) to jump to the front of the queue to compete for the vacant WBA super world middleweight strap, ahead of their regular champ (Murata) and their interim titleholder (Eubank Jr.).apollo creed wrote: ↑02 Jan 2021, 13:17 WBA could put that belt at stake in GGG vs Munguia fight! However, we’re talking about the utterly rancid WBA here, so it could theoretically happen, based on their track-record of dubious practices, though I’m pretty confident it won’t.

Debating the validity of the WBA's decisions is a waste of time.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑02 Jan 2021, 13:51It would be very corrupt of the WBA to allow GGG (unranked) and Munguia (6th) to jump to the front of the queue to compete for the vacant WBA super world middleweight strap, ahead of their regular champ (Murata) and their interim titleholder (Eubank Jr.).apollo creed wrote: ↑02 Jan 2021, 13:17 WBA could put that belt at stake in GGG vs Munguia fight! It should be beyond obvious by now that the only thing that influences their decisions is who sent the biggest check.

I mean, why not?
Three belts per division is outdated, it's time to have a fourth belt.

Re: Canelo Alvarez vacates WBA Middleweight Belt
It would be a very good thing that wba to put their main mw belt into the Golovkin vs Munguia fight b/c it's a top-action fight. I doubt that Murata and Eubank Jr would seal a deal to fight together. So, I'd prefer to see Golovkin- No. 1 mw Ring Magazine fighter vs Munguia-No. 9 mw Ring Magazine fighter fighting for the vacant super WBA mw title in a good-sealed- done deal boxing match.

Canelo is rated above GGG by The RING, therefore Golovkin is second.apollo creed wrote: ↑02 Jan 2021, 16:54 Golovkin- No. 1 mw Ring Magazine fighter vs Munguia-No. 9 mw Ring Magazine fighter fighting for the vacant super WBA mw title and G's IBF mw title!![]()
And nine men are rated above Munguia, which means he’s tenth.
Simple maths really.
GGG-Munguia might be moderately entertaining, but it’s a mismatch to showcase Golovkin’s talents, to allow DAZN to dishonestly sell the idea that he hasn’t declined.
GGG-Andrade or GGG-Charlo, now those are acid tests.

Excuse me, I meant five.
Five, it's time for five wba belts per division.

Murata, Eubank, Martinez? F*ck them all.
Golovkin and Charlo should fight for their belts and the vacated one.

Canelo is rated as the mw Ring Champion. Boy put your glasses! Also Canelo will compete at smw/168 lbs! So I think Golovkin would be elevated as the mw Ring Magazine Champion. GGG vs Munguia will be an action-packed fight! Golovkin already beat a superior afro-american fighter in Jacobs (better than Charlito and Andrada)! Why these two young fighters(Charlo and Andrade) should fight an almost 40 y/o past of his prime fighter(GGG) and not fight each other ? lol

When Canelo vacates it, or when it’s possibly stripped from him during their next ratings update, The RING championship will become vacant.
The only way for GGG to capture the vacant RING championship would be for him to defeat Jermall Charlo, or at a push, Demetrius Andrade.
In all likelihood, Gennadiy Golovkin will refuse to face those guys, which means he’ll never become The RING champion at middleweight.
Now that might seem harsh, but let’s not forget that during December 2018, the WBC ordered GGG to face Jermall Charlo to become Canelo’s mandatory challenger.
He declined the opportunity and chose to face Steve Rolls instead.
Around the same timeframe, GGG also renounced his WBO number one challenger status, by preferring to face the anonymous, unheralded and unaccomplished Steve Rolls, rather than challenging for Demetrius Andrade's title.
And we have to assume that GGG will flatly-refuse to consider facing Sergiy Derevyanchenko again, because it will inevitably result in him suffering a second career loss.
Therefore, I just don’t know how GGG could possibly capture the vacant RING championship without facing any of those guys.
Regardless, GGG (by default) will indeed become The RING’s highest-rated middleweight during their next ratings update, but he won’t be able to possess the vacant championship without facing anyone half-decent.
