Bolton's Olympic silver medallist khan is targeting November's World Championships in the Chinese outpost of Mianyang City as the time and place to ascend to number one.

But the confident 18-year-old could find his task much harder than he had hoped because of a change of heart on a Caribbean island thousands of miles away.

Reports from Cuba this week claimed their legendary lightweight Mario Kindelan had had second thoughts about the retirement he announced in the wake of his Athens final win over Khan.

Kindelan - named Cuban sportsman of the year in a ceremony in Havana this week - has apparently decided to give the amateur game one last shot before he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 34.

Quite when Kindelan reaches that age is open to some question - and could have some bearing on whether Khan will ever be given his chance for revenge.

The great triple world and double Olympic champion has previously posted different birth dates for competitions - only one of which would make him eligible to fight in China.

But it would seem a little pointless were Kindelan to change his mind and risk a proud five-year unbeaten record unless he was sure of his ability to squeeze in one last piece of major silverware.
